The Master of Science in Medicine Physician Assistant Program (MSM-PA) within the College of Health Sciences is seeking candidates for a full-time 12-month faculty position. Desired candidates should be capable of excellent teaching committed to significant involvement with students both within and outside of the classroom and interested in participating in the academic units service learning and/or graduate research.

Salary:

PLNU pays its faculty using a pay scale based on experience and academic rank. Faculty salaries using this scale for a 3-semester appointment range from $87210 - $142678. The actual salary will be based on the experience (clinical and educational) rank and appointment term of the candidate selected to fill this position.

Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of the Principal Faculty member is to support the evaluation and implementation of the didactic curriculum in concert with the Director of Didactic Education. Specific tasks include the following:

  • Develop and prepare course material such as syllabi objectives assigned readings evaluation instruments course/lecture objectives evaluations and other educational materials.

  • Evaluate course performance at the close of the semester and make recommendations to faculty for modifications if indicated by the evaluation.

  • Develop schedule and coordinate the clinical labs taught during the first year curriculum.

  • Recruit and vet lecturers (adjunct and guest lecturers) for didactic sessions

  • Set up and take down special equipment and other supplies used in the clinical skills lab sessions

  • Work with Lab and Sim Coordinator to maintain supplies used in clinical labs

  • Arrange or provide lab instruction as appropriate

  • Maintain communication (lecture confirmation thank you letters etc.) with all lecturers and lab instructors.

  • Develop written examinations for specific courses and ensure their correlation to lecture material covered at the appropriate level for the learning objective. Incorporate item analysis in the post-exam review as appropriate.

  • Provide lectures and serve as an instructor to the first-year students on topics in areas of expertise and interest.

  • Ensure instructional assessment items are appropriately mapped to verify coverage.

General Responsibilities:

  • Participate in team meetings Progress and Promotions Committee Curriculum Committee and Admissions Committee.

  • Participate in the formal evaluation of students performance

  • Follow the academic progress and provide academic counseling and recommendations for learning community students

  • Review and critique patient databases/workups and service projects submitted by advisees as part of their coursework.

  • Advise students academically spiritually and socially

  • Review the subjective and objective evaluation data from each advisees preceptor for each assigned rotation during the clinical phase

  • Monitor both individual and group performance during the clinical year

  • Coordinate schedules and other activities with other first-year course directors as appropriate.

  • Participate in faculty development and other related coursework seminars and workshops to remain current.

  • Support and participate in state and national organizations to promote the profession and strengthen network resources.

  • Maintain credentials to practice (state national) i.e. CME.

  • Counsel and advise approximately 7-9 students per class year regarding: Academic performance and clinical performance Program-related concerns Selection of clinical electives
