The Exceptional Children (EC) Support Assistant is dedicated to assisting in the creation and maintenance of an effective learning environment for students with special needs. This role involves supporting the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans assisting with classroom accommodations and providing direct support to exceptional students under the guidance of certified special education staff.

Qualifications:
High School Diploma required; some college coursework in Special Education Psychology or related field preferred.
Experience working with children or individuals with disabilities is highly desirable.
Patience empathy and a genuine interest in supporting students with special needs.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work with students teachers and families.
Basic knowledge of IEPs 504 Plans and special education laws is a plus.
Skills:
Serves as an assistant to exceptional education teachers in the development of Individualized Education Plans.
Assists in the interpretation of testing data
Supports teachers in the initial placement process reevaluation and manifestation process. Assists in the development and delivery to support the initial placement process evaluation and manifestation process
Process EC procedures and compliance in accordance with Policies Governing Services for Children with Disabilities
Supports EC teachers in developing and writing compliant annual goals as well as short term objectives
Participates as a contributing member of the Instructional Design and Innovation team
Conducts in-house audits of EC records to ensure compliance with N.C. policies as stated in Policies Governing Services for Children with Disabilities
Can serve as Local Education Agency representative in Individualized Education Plan meetings Serves as liaison to Department of Public Instruction Monitoring Division
Assists as a resource to school level EC Professional Learning Communities
Provides parent and family support to students with disabilities
Collects and analyzes program data to assist in personnel allotment and Continuous Improvement Performance Plan monitoring
Performs other duties as assigned
