Job Summary

Summary: We seek a highly collaborative proactive and engaged educator to carry out job responsibilities that include working with programs for community-based learning internships online/virtual learning and independent studies. This individual should believe in the transformational power of experiential learning and flexible pathways toward graduation for all students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

On Campus / Campus-Based

  • Coordinate support and facilitate student learning experiences ranging from internships apprenticeships community service projects and independent studies.
    • Co-develop implement and support student learning plans.
    • Provide routine written and verbal feedback and assessment to students and maintain online gradebook.
    • Coordinate independent studies by working with students subject-specific teachers counselors administration and community partners to develop and oversee the implementation of learning plans.
  • Assist online learning students (VHS VTVLC Online Dual Enrollment) by monitoring student progress and providing academic support as needed to help students complete assessments manage their time well and complete assignments on time.
  • Work with faculty/staff including the counseling department to leverage local resources to design and implement career exploration activities including career panels virtual informational interviews and relevant field trips.
  • Plan coordinate and execute Sophomore Shadow Day a 10th-grade job shadow experience in conjunction with the counseling staff English II teachers and area businesses and organizations including:
    • developing and revising relevant curriculum materials and PR materials
    • supporting students in identifying careers of interest and potential shadow hosts
    • facilitating placements including brainstorming options with students and contacting potential hosts on behalf of students
    • securing Shadow Day Agreements between students hosts and parents
    • Planning and coordinating transportation on Shadow Day
  • Collaborate with case managers to design implement and support transition plans for students with IEPs or students who are not being fully in the classroom.
  • Collaborate with the counseling team to support individual students accessing flexible pathways.

Off Campus / Community-Based

  • Coordinate community-based and work-based learning opportunities for students including establishing and maintaining relationships with area businesses and institutions and coaching students to succeed in a variety of context
  • Supervise students programming in CBL including service learning internships and work for credit placements.
  • Provide routine written and verbal feedback and assessment to students.
  • Explicitly assess habits of work and transferable skills (Portrait of a Graduate) based on established schoolwide learning scales.
  • Ensure that off-campus learning experiences comply with district policies and VT/federal labor laws by:
    • reviewing federal and state youth labor laws including the Hazardous Occupations Fact Sheets and articulating activities that are restricted in individual learning plans and agreements
    • facilitating background checks for community partners
    • maintaining a list of student placements and providing it to the Central Office for insurance purposes
    • arranging transportation
  • Other duties as assigned by the principal.

Online Learning Site Coordinator

WUHSMS offers a variety of online courses through partnerships with VTVLC the Virtual High School CCV and Vermont State University. Each year between 75 and 100 students take advantage of this flexible way to personalize their learning and explore specific topics of interest.

In collaboration with the counseling department the Online Learning Site Coordinator is responsible for:

  • publicizing VHS VTVLC and online dual enrollment opportunities to both students and parents and recruit/enroll eligible students each semester
  • coordinating and implementing local grading and registration policies
  • ensuring students have local technical resources needed to access and be successful in their online learning
  • monitoring student progress and provide support as needed to help ensure students manage time properly and complete assignments on time
  • communicating with online instructors and administrators should students need additional support
  • submitting finalized grades to counseling department administrators and school data manager

Exploring Your Future

This quarter-long class is designed to engage students in relevant age-appropriate career exploration activities including reflecting on their own interests skills affinities and values and considering how these might relate to a future career/occupation; developing a career-connected learning tool box of resources and techniques that they can continue to develop and use in the future; learning about a variety of careers/occupations as well as a field of specific interest to them; and developing skills including researching note taking writing and developing a website.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design curriculum and assessment
  • Follow school procedures and policies related to curriculum and assessment
  • Assess student work and maintain digital gradebook
  • Collaborate with middle school classroom teachers counselors and special educators to support middle-level learners
