The Harris County Tax Assessor-Collectors Office is seeking an experienced and motivated Voter Registration Outreach Deputy Specialist II to support the Voter Registration Division. Reporting to the Associate Director of Outreach Programs this role is responsible for building and maintaining partnerships with community organizations to expand voter registration opportunities. The position coordinates outreach efforts including voter registration education volunteer training and public guidance on accessing community services. By promoting civic engagement and empowering individuals to conduct voter registration within their own communities this role plays a vital part in strengthening community involvement in the democratic process.
About the Tax Assessor-Collector:
The Harris County Tax Assessor-Collectors Office is essential for ensuring the proper administration of tax laws and providing vital services to the community. The office plays a key role in local government handling various financial and administrative tasks including:- Property Tax Collection: Assess and collect property taxes for all eligible commercial and residential property owners and entities. Calculate property taxes based on appraised values and ensure collection and distribution to the appropriate entities.
- Motor Vehicle Services: Manage commercial and residential vehicle registration issue license plates and handle vehicle title transfers including the collection of associated fees.
- Voter Registration:Oversee voter registration within the county issue voter registration certificates and maintain an accurate voter registration roll.
- Additional Revenue Collection:Collecting certain fees fines and revenues related to permits or state mandates depending on the countys needs.
Duties & Responsibilities:- Respond to community requests for services and engagement opportunities with the Tax Office and other Harris County organizations.
- Identify and pursue new opportunities for voter education and registration.
- Facilitate State-mandated Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrar (VDVR) trainings as assigned.
- Support the voter outreach team at community events including travel to sites across Harris County.
- Process VDVR training submissions and voter registration applications.
- Maintain and update the outreach calendar of events.
- Assist the Voter Registration Processing Team as needed with creating deputy numbers creating and processing certificates of appointments data entries putting starter kits together auditing the number of voter registration material on hand for use to maintain efficiency around the office and assure there is an abundance of material available for the community outreach events.
- Regularly drive for official business such as meetings voter registration outreach events trainings Naturalization ceremonies. Travel dates and times vary
- Participate in election-related activities as required.

Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Associate degree or higher in political science public administration communications or a related field from an accredited U.S. institution.
- At least one (1) year of experience in community outreach civic engagement volunteer coordination or related public service.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with community partners and the public.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong reading comprehension and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Demonstrated time management and multitasking abilities.
- Professional demeanor and appearance.
- Flexibility to work varied schedules including early mornings late evenings weekends and extended hours as needed.
Licensure:- Valid drivers license (Texas required upon hire); ability and willingness to travel frequently within Harris County and occasionally outside the county.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:- Strong written and verbal communication with tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and initiatives simultaneously.
- Skilled in motivating individuals and groups by fostering a positive environment.
- Proficiency in documentation and public relations.

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
- Regular Full-time
- Monday - Friday 7:45 am - 4:45 pm
- Subject to overtime and weekends
Working Conditions Mental & Physical Demands:- Work is performed primarily in an office setting subject to frequent interruptions with extensive work at a computer workstation and site visits to various Tax Offices Harris County and community facilities both outdoors and indoors.
- Flexibility to work evening and weekend hours and occasional overnight travel to conferences and training sessions may be required.
- This role is a standard office role that requires remaining stationary for long periods of time.
- At times boxes or equipment must be transported weighing up to 30 lbs.
- It may at times involve long periods of standing walking bending reaching stretching climbing lifting or similar activities (e.g. filing delivering sorting).
- Regular application of basic skills (calculator keyboard hand tools eye/hand coordination).
