Job Description

The Laurel School District is seeking qualified applicants for the position(s) of Secretary for Student Services for the 2025-2026 school year. This is a Level IV position with a beginning wage of $17.25 per hour.

Under the direction of the Student Services Director the Secretary will provide secretarial support to the Student Services Department and other administrators; conveying information regarding all Student Services activities and procedures; ensuring compliance with all regulatory financial legal and administrative requirements; and overseeing the office activities. This job is distinguished from similar jobs by the following characteristics: required initiative organizational problem-solving skills; ability to acquire knowledge of district students and parents in registration special education and other student/parent needs. Incumbents are expected to work independently and carry out administrative details without requiring the immediate attention of an administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • .High School Diploma/GED; OR an equivalent combination of education training and experience as determined by Human Resources.
  • At least one year of responsible office experience.
  • Demonstrate professional office skills; possess exceptional multi-tasking and organizational skills and basic accounting experience.
  • Proficient computer/keyboarding and technology skills including basic knowledge of computer data entry Microsoft applications and experience with web-based applications.
  • Demonstrate proper spelling grammar punctuation and composition.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs a wide variety of clerical and secretarial work including typing proofreading filing phones mailings and computer work.
  • Maintains records forms and schedules for students and staff.
  • Answers inquiries concerning standardized policies procedures and regulations.
  • Assists in special projects including Medicaid Administrative Claiming (MAC) Child Find and Extended School Year (ESY) programs.
  • Serves as receptionist and assists students staff and visitors concerning school policies procedures and regulations.
  • Responds to student and parent inquiries and facilitates resolution through escalation when appropriate while employing discretion and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Receives sorts and distributes mail and office correspondence.
  • Assists superintendent director or another administrator.
  • Types memoranda and correspondence from general instruction and creates/updates reports records and other materials.
  • Tracks and maintains equipment and materials inventories and distributes materials and equipment to appropriate schools.
  • Maintains accurate records ledgers and deposits pertaining various accounts.
  • Attends meetings or conferences as requested and creates confidential notes letters memos and reports as directed.
  • Sorts indexes and files materials alphabetically numerically and by other predetermined categories.
  • Dictates collates and assembles materials for distribution.
  • Coordinates orients and directs preschool child find needs.
  • Creates and maintains multiple calendars including master schedules school events and administrator appointments.
  • Assists in the preparation of state reports.
  • Prepares and disseminates parental notices and information via email mail website and phone.
  • Conducts himself/herself in a professional ethical and respectful manner at all times.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to his/her on-going professional development.
  • Dresses in a professional manner.
