Assist in the oversight and coordination of the districts transportation operations and vehicle maintenance program to ensure safe efficient and compliant services. Support daily operations routing fleet maintenance and staff supervision while maintaining compliance with federal state and local regulations.
Qualifications:
Education and Certification
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
Clear and valid Texas commercial drivers license with passenger (P) school bus (S) and air brake endorsements
Texas School Bus Driver Certification
Must maintain compliance with all Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations governing CDL issuance and renewal
DOT Medical Examiners Certificate including a clear drug and alcohol screen (or the ability to obtain the MEC)
Ability to pass required Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examinations and drug and alcohol testing including annual and random screenings
Experience
Three (3) years of experience in transportation operations or fleet management preferably in a public school district
Three (3) years of experience as a certified bus driver
Experience supervising staff (preferred)
Knowledge and Skills
Comprehensive knowledge of student transportation operations and fleet maintenance practices
Proficient knowledge of federal state and local regulations related to student transportation and safety
Ability to safely operate a school bus and related equipment
Ability to manage routing scheduling and transportation logistics
Proficient organizational interpersonal verbal and written communication skills
Ability to analyze operational data and support decision-making

Transportation Operations Support
Assist in the coordination and daily operation of student transportation services to ensure safe and timely routes.
Support the development and maintenance of bus routes and schedules.
Assist in assigning drivers to routes and extracurricular trips and arranging coverage as needed.
Monitor transportation operations and address issues related to routing scheduling and service delivery.
Assist the Director of Transportation with departmental operations and initiatives.
Support budget monitoring and operational planning.
Fleet and Maintenance Oversight
Support oversight of fleet maintenance and ensure vehicles are maintained in safe operating condition.
Assist in prioritizing vehicle repairs and preventive maintenance.
Monitor vehicle inspections fuel usage and maintenance records.
Compliance and Reporting
Ensure compliance with federal state and local laws including Texas Education Agency (TEA) transportation requirements.
Compile and maintain transportation reports and required documentation.
Support processes related to driver certification safety compliance and required testing.
Personnel Support and Supervision
Assist in supervising transportation staff including drivers and support personnel.
Support recruitment training assignment and evaluation of staff.
Safety and Emergency Response
Support implementation of transportation safety programs and procedures.
Assist in investigating accidents and safety incidents.
Monitor road conditions and assist in decisions related to weather or emergency operations.
Bus Operation
Operate a school bus as needed to support transportation services.
Perform pre- and post-trip inspections and ensure the vehicle is operated safely in compliance with all applicable laws and district policies.
Communication
Serve as a liaison with campuses parents and community stakeholders regarding transportation services.
Communicate changes in routes schedules and services as needed.
Additional Responsibilities:
Adhere to all district policies procedures and expectations outlined in the employee handbook and administrative regulations.
Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Engage in strategic planning leadership collaboration and continuous professional growth aligned with the goals of the department and district.

Direct the work of assigned transportation staff
Provide input regarding hiring assignment evaluation and discipline of personnel
Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); heavy lifting (45 pounds or over) and positioning of students with physical disabilities controlling behavior through physical restraint assisting nonambulatory students and lifting and moving adaptive equipment
Environment: Work outside and inside on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures dust noise vibration; exposure to chemical hazards; work around vehicles and machinery with moving parts; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel; occasional statewide travel
