Key Responsibilities:
Production Management
Manages and coordinates the efficient running of the Mill and Packing Machine.
Establishes production schedules for product mix volumes and plant capacities to ensure total production is in dispatch by due time.
Monitors production of products through periodic evaluations of the output in terms of production plans and checklists.
Monitors and checks accurate batching and adherence to formulations.
Monitors mill performance identifies gaps and implements corrective actions to attain target throughput.
Monitors availability of sufficient raw materials and labour for the plant.
Implements production plans shared by the Unit Manager to meet demand requirements.
Maintains optimal machinery function through adherence to maintenance plans in liaison with the Maintenance Manager.
Prepares and submits production reports and projections to the Unit Manager.
Mill Maintenance Management
Contributes to the development of the Mill and Packing machine annual maintenance plan.
Identifies machinery faults and liaises with the Maintenance Manager on plans for corrective maintenance.
Tracks maintenance schedules for milling equipment (roll sifter purifier and dust collector maintenance schedules).
Ensures compliance to maintenance schedules by Control Room Operators.
Maintains and updates Mill performance records and operational procedures for audit purposes.
Contributes to the schedule of Planned Maintenance (PM) days in line with demand pressures.
Approves and signs off the completion of maintenance jobs before mill start-up.
Plans for the service maintenance and calibration of all mill packing scales.
Milling Cost Control
Maintains all conversion cost brackets within set budgets.
Supports the Unit Manager in implementing agreed shift patterns to minimize outsourced labour costs.
Implements cost-effective running patterns that ensure minimal power utilization (kWh/mt).
Monitors and tracks forklift usage (fuel and running hours) to ensure maximum utilization.
Ensures optimum mill and Packing Machine performance to reduce downtime and unplanned stoppages.
Monitors and prepares stock reports for raw materials and stock counts.
Safety Health Environment and Quality (SHEQ)
Reduces reworks and minimizes returns due to poor quality through monitoring of inline quality tests.
Resolves customer complaints received through the Sales Team on production issues in line with SOPs.
Participates in monthly safety meetings and safety audits.
Ensures implementation of agreed deliverables with key stakeholders.
Ensures compliance to SHE regulations by all subordinates.
Prepares and disseminates housekeeping schedules and ensures adherence to standards.
Assesses PPE issues and ensures all employees have adequate and suitable equipment.
Supports SHE training of employees to minimize accidents.
Staff Supervision
Develops half-year leave plans and enforces compliance.
Evaluates staff identifies performance strengths and deficiencies and arranges necessary action.
Develops training plans and calendars for new trainee millers to ensure comprehensive on-the-job training.
Identifies disciplinary problems and arranges necessary action in line with HR policies and the Code of Conduct.
Key Skills:
Achievement of mill and Packing Machine efficiencies (throughput downtime extractions milling gains).
Attainment of set production targets within quality and efficiency standards.
