  • This position will work onsite the Grand Forks ND campus.

Purpose of Position

The College of Nursing & Professional Disciplines (CNPD) is hiring a Student Support Nurse Mentor to advise and support nursing students throughout their academic journey.

This role is ideal for an RN with a BSN who is interested in education advising or student support and values predictable hours meaningful work and long-term impact.

The primary responsibility of this role will be to provide academic advisement academic tutoring and writing mentorship to promote student success as GERO-STARR trainees transition to the rigors of the BSN program. This role includes academic and non-academic support with priorities of promoting student success and creating a sense of belonging among GERO-STARR trainees. Tutoring service will extend to other UND nursing pre-licensure BSN students from educationally disadvantaged and rural areas in ND to improve retention rates in the BSN program.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Mentor to Nursing Students
    • Develop a trusting caring relationship and maintain ongoing student contact and interaction
    • Review academic readiness and possible barriers determine support services needed and assist with those services
    • Provide academic and personal advice/counsel assist with financial aid applications and all documentation needed to facilitate academic readiness and success
    • Provide an orientation and overview to students each semester
    • Assist students with organizing their course schedules/syllabi
    • Set up group or individual study sessions
    • Develop strategies to assist students in preparing for exams practicing skills and developing professional communication skills
    • Develop strategies to assist students to improve their scholarly writing skills and possible referral to Writing Mentor/Services
  • Function as a Team Member within the Grant GERO-STARR program Undergraduate Nursing Department the CNPD and the University
    • Assist in planning developing implementing & evaluating program goals and objectives including recruitment & retention activities
    • Attend all staff meetings and events and assist with program activities including development of program materials
    • Assist in recruitment and retention for undergraduate nursing GERO-STARR and the RAIN program
    • Assist in reporting requirements for GERO-STARR program progress reports and analyze outcomes
    • Ensure grant objectives are being met or makes suggested improvements to meet grant goals and objectives
    • Participate in CNPD activities i.e. committees meetings presentations or workshops
    • Collaborate with various individuals and departments to meet program goals

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing. May 2026 graduates will be considered.
  • Must be eligible for licensure as a registered nurse in North Dakota or have a current unencumbered license
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products
  • Prior usage of nursing lab equipment
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Nursing
  • Five years work experience with populations from disadvantaged backgrounds in North Dakota (e.g. rural or tribal)
  • Experience with rural nursing theory and sociological and psychosocial behaviors
  • Experience with health career pathways and curriculum
  • Experience with respective educational institutions and higher education
