Job Description

Location: Sydney (Working remotely)

Employment Type: Full-Time permanent

Salary: $110k to $120k per annum Superannuation (SCHADS AWARD -Level 5)

About NAPCAN

The National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN) is Australias first secular for-purpose organisation dedicated solely to preventing child abuse and neglect before it occurs.

Since 1987 NAPCANs mission is to promote and support the prevention of violence abuse and neglect of children and young people enhancing their chance to live a safe healthy and happy childhood where they are valued and loved. The organisation achieves this by developing and delivering evidence-based training programs resources and campaigns that empower individuals and communities to create safer environments for children.

About the Role

The Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the financial integrity of the organisation. This position is responsible for accurate and timely financial bookkeeping reporting and compliance functions including accounts payable and receivable reconciliations payroll and month-end financial reporting

Working closely with the Head of Finance and broader team the Accountant supports the effective financial management of the organisation in line with not-for-profit (NFP) regulatory and donor requirements. See position description attached below for further details.

Essential Criteria:

  • Demonstrated ability to update and maintain a payroll system and the ability to extract and analyse data. Experience with payroll software preferably QBO payroll is desirable.
  • Understanding of payroll legislation and processes i.e. tax and superannuation and Social Community Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award interpretation is a must
  • Demonstrated experience in all accounting aspects of work from day to day accounts payable receivable reconciliations & month end reporting while maintaining a high level of accuracy strong numeracy skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated initiative proven organisational and time management skills including the ability to manage workflow and balance competing priorities to ensure timely processing to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated customer service ethic and the ability to respond to questions and queries from internal and external clients in a timely respectful and effective manner.
  • Working with Children Check (or willing to obtain)
  • National Police Check (or willing to obtain)

Desirable Criteria:

  • Accounting Qualifications
  • Minimum 5-year experience as an accountant in a not-for-profit sector is highly regarded.
  • Experience in payroll under the Social Community Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award is a must

  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Proficient in Google Suites & Microsoft Office especially Excel
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Collaborative and proactive problem-solving approach
