Job Description

We are looking for site-based Construction Manager that can coordinate and supervise project work in a standalone manner with day to day minimal assistance to join our clients team.
Salary:
Negotiable
Responsibilities:
  • Pre-construction planning: Works with the senior management and the supply chain to assist with developing the project planning method statement and preliminary base line construction schedule.
  • Site leadership: Acts as the commander in chief taking ownership of the site and instilling confidence and discipline among all site personnel and the wider site supply chain. Creates an environment that is professional friendly collaborative and progressive and observes the companys work ethic and Standard of Performance.
  • Site planning: Ensures that short term look ahead plans and schedules including resources and contractor resources are planned coordinated and communicated with senior management
  • consultants and contractors.
  • Site supervision & coordination: Overseeing daily construction activities to ensure alignment with design schedule and safety standards. Coordinating between contractors suppliers and consultants.
  • Progress monitoring: Tracking work completed vs. planned. Identifying delays and recommending corrective actions. Ensuring resources planned vs actual are reconciled and corrective actions taken.
  • Quality Control: Liaising with senior managers and the supply chain to ensure a quality control plan is initiated agreed communicated and functionally operational on the site. Conducting and coordinating inspections and ensuring work meets specifications and standards. Managing non-conformance reports (NCRs) and corrective actions.
  • HSE management coordination and compliance: Enforcing safety protocols and conducting regular site safety walks. Leading or participating in safety briefings and incident investigations.
  • Client & stakeholder liaison: Acting as the on-site representative for the client or consulting firm.
  • Facilitating site meetings and reporting to project stakeholders.
  • Problem solving & issue resolution: Addressing technical or logistical issues on-site. Coordinating with design teams for clarifications or changes.
  • Risk management: Work with senior management consultants and contractors to identify and mitigate risks and maintain the project risk register.
  • Documentation and reporting: Maintaining accurate site records logs and reports. Ensuring documentation is up to date and accessible.
  • Contractor performance evaluations: Assessments of contractor compliance productivity and quality.
  • Document control: Works with the head office document controller to ensure that all hard and soft copies of drawings documentation and associated registers are up to date and the document control system is healthy and functional.
  • Management and coordination of Long Lead Schedules (LLS) and Information Required Schedules (IRS): Ensures these schedules are developed updated and maintained to ensure
  • procurement and information required deliverables are tracked monitored and controlled.
  • Procurement management and liaison. Liaises with head office and client procurement agents to ensure that all client direct procurement activities are monitored controlled and timely.
  • Operations & Maintenance and Handover Manual compilation. Assists senior management and project support office staff to ensure that the O&M manual process is started early in the project is coordinated with consultants and contractors and is complete for hand over at Practical Completion.
Key Skills:
  • Previous experience of 10 years in the construction industry with a minimum of two years site experience with a reputable contractor/consultant.
  • Must have run sites independently for a minimum of 5 years and be able to clearly evidence this.
  • Experience working on large-scale engineering or construction projects with solid exposure to the typical construction and engineering protocols associated with these types of projects is essential.
  • Regional/international exposure is beneficial but not essential.
  • Construction Site Management: Knowledge of construction methods sequencing and logistics.
  • Project Scheduling tools: Proficiency in MS Project.
  • Contract Administration: Familiarity with contract types such as JBCC FIDIC NEC as well as claims administration.
  • Quality Assurance and safety compliance: Understanding of QA/QC procedures and HSE regulations.
  • Technical drawing interpretation: Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
  • IT: Strong IT/Tech skills including familiarity with databases and Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMS)
  • Class 4 drivers licence essential.
  • Communication Skills: Clear verbal and written communication with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Negotiation and Conflict Resolution: Ability to mediate disputes and negotiate with contractors and suppliers.
  • Team Collaboration: Works effectively with multidisciplinary teams on-site and off-site.
  • Time Management: Prioritizes tasks and manages time efficiently under tight deadlines.
  • Decision-Making: Makes informed decisions quickly especially in high-pressure situations
Qualifications:
  • Diploma or Degree in any built environment qualification preferably in the construction management /site management sphere but including related engineering disciplines.
  • Appropriate NVQs in the AEC sphere will be considered.
  • Any professional certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) CCM (Certified Construction Manager) CIOB (Chartered Institute of Building) RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors) SACPCMP (South African Council for the Project and Construction
  • Management Professions) or similar will be considered.
  • Relevant certifications or courses in various forms of contract such as JBCC FIDIC and NEC will be beneficial.
  • Safety certifications such as advanced first aid will be beneficial.
  • Certificates in project planning systems such as Candy (CCS) Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project are beneficial.
