Position Summary:
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rice University seeks a detail-oriented and analytical professional to serve as Research Administrator I. This position supports the departments dynamic research enterprise by managing a diverse portfolio of post-award funding including sponsored research grants university funds and faculty-controlled accounts.
Key responsibilities include developing financial forecasts conducting in-depth reconciliations preparing reports and advising faculty on budgetary and compliance matters. The role requires strong data analysis skills accuracy in financial tracking and collaboration with university partners such as SPARC and RCA. This position plays a vital role in supporting impactful research through sound financial oversight and data-informed decision-making.

A successful candidate will be detail-oriented highly organized and capable of interpreting complex financial data to support decision-making in a collaborative academic environment.
Workplace Requirements: This position is exclusively on-site necessitating all duties to be performed in-person at insert location and schedule. PerRice policy 440 work arrangements may be subject to change.
Hiring Range:$64000 - $69900
*Exempt (salaried) positions underFLSAare not eligible for overtime.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree
- In lieu of the education requirement additional related experience above and beyond what is required may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.
- 1 years of experience in post-award research administration financial reporting and analysis or related
Preferences:
- Bachelors degree preferred
- Experience working in a higher education or academic research environment
- Experience in post-award research administration or sponsored project accounting
- Familiarity with federal grant regulations and compliance requirements (e.g. NSF NIH Uniform Guidance)
- Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to interpret and present complex financial data
Essential Functions:
- Provides support in the administration of research projects including data entry document uploads and information collection
- Under supervision reviews sponsor guidelines and assists the Principal Investigator (PI) with routine proposal preparation or other sponsored agreements
- Coordinates and communicates submission processes ensures proposals are received in OSR and updates specialists on deadlines special concerns or questions
- Prepares and coordinates non-budget proposal elements and under guidance reviews sponsor guidelines
- Serves as liaison between PI Office of Sponsored Research specialists research groups and other departments
- Ensures subcontract budgets align with Rices budget guidelines and alerts the PI of discrepancies; confirms budget matches sponsor budget and justification
- Downloads and updates reports for submitted proposals
- Performs all other duties as assigned
