About the position
This position is a part of the Network Security Services Firewall Team within the Network Services Division (NSD). This team uses advanced technical knowledge and considerable discretion to analyze design install maintain troubleshoot and resolve complex problems on more than 180 firewalls protecting/securing state agencies data centers and malicious traffic from the internet.

As a Senior Operations Support Engineeryou will helpensure the state is secure and that all firewalls that control internet interagency communication and data center network traffic are allowing only authorized traffic and blocking unauthorized traffic. In this role you will use specialized tools to diagnosis connectivity security posture and performance problems for enterprise applications that transverse the network core or use the internet.

Some of what to expect with this role:

• Support maintain and enhance existing Domain Name System (DNS) service for state agencies and other customers by ensuring statewide business and financial applications voice services state applications dependent on DNS are always available.
• Receive and analyze requests for internal and external DNS changes; plan coordinate and implement DNS.
• Receive and analyze requests for edge and core firewall changes plan coordinate and implement firewall service changes for vendors and external/internal customers ensuring coordination and accuracy of the network security requests.
• Responsible for providing 24x7x365 network reliability on the statewide network that enables a large variety of government agencies and organizations to conduct essential businesses.
• Provide problem resolution for network outages application communication failures internet control security incidents occurring on the statewide firewalls during and after normal business hours.
• Resolve customer incidents/requests using advanced hardware/software monitoring and diagnostic tools such as Wireshark packet captures SIEM logs Firewall logs Network routing and switching logs SNMP traps tools to test firewall configurations and make modifications or suggestions that have a statewide agency wide networkwide impact.
• Provide consultation and guidance to agency IT staff on designing and maintaining complex firewall configurations across multiple platforms for enterprise security using protocols and security services.
• Design and maintain configuration templates for new installations that conform to industry best practices and state policies.
• Manage and monitor RSA server environment.

Heres what were looking for:

• Eight years of information technology experience which must include:
  • Four years of 3layer network routing and switching experience in a production environment.
  • Two years of experience of managing an advanced firewall in an enterprise or service provider environment.
• *A bachelors degree in computer science or an equivalent technical discipline from an accredited college or university may substitute on a yearforyear basis for up to four years of the required experience.

Preference may be granted to applicants with the following:

• Network security or other IT networking related certifications such as:
  • Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP) Routing and Switching.
  • Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP).
  • Fortinet Network Security Expert 4 or higher) Certification

Telework: This position is approved for telework. However this position is required to be onsite in an emergency and during equipment swaps and upgrades.
