Joiner – Precast Formwork

Description

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Workshop Carpenter / Joiner to manufacture and assemble timber formwork and moulds used in the production of precast concrete elements. The successful candidate will work within a fast-paced workshop environment producing high-quality formwork to precise technical specifications. This role requires strong carpentry and joinery skills the ability to read technical drawings and experience working with timber plywood and specialist formwork materials. Candidates must be comfortable using woodworking machinery and power tools while maintaining high standards of safety accuracy and productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Manufacture timber moulds shutters and formwork systems for precast concrete components including wall panels stairs columns beams slabs and architectural and structural units.
  • Build bespoke formwork to exact dimensions and tolerances; assemble timber plywood steel components and fixtures.
  • Interpret engineering drawings production schedules and technical specifications; measure mark and cut materials accurately.
  • Operate and carry out daily checks and basic maintenance on workshop machinery and hand tools including table saws panel saws mitre saws routers nail guns drills sanders and planers.
  • Support production teams with mould preparation setup stripping cleaning and refurbishment after concrete pours; install cast-in items block-outs chamfers and fixing systems as required.
  • Modify and repair existing moulds and formwork systems; ensure moulds are suitable for repetitive casting and meet production requirements.
  • Maintain organised storage of tools and materials minimise material wastage and assist with stock control and material handling.
  • Ensure quality control by checking dimensions squareness and finish quality before production use; identify and resolve manufacturing issues promptly.
  • Follow and promote workshop and factory health and safety procedures wear appropriate PPE keep work areas clean and report unsafe conditions or damaged equipment immediately.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in carpentry joinery or timber formwork manufacturing in a workshop or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical and engineering drawings with strong attention to dimensional accuracy.
  • Experience using woodworking machinery and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Strong understanding of timber construction and assembly methods and workplace health and safety.
  • Desirable: experience within precast concrete manufacturing or manufacturing reusable concrete moulds/formwork; NVQ or City & Guilds in Carpentry & Joinery or equivalent; forklift licence or overhead crane experience; CSCS card or equivalent.

  • Practical problem-solving and the ability to work to production deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Strong pride in quality workmanship and attention to detail.
