Site/Production Manager

Kawasaki Rail Car Inc.

Long Island City, NY

Salary: $98,000 - $130,000 Annually

Job Description:

Manages and controls the production of various products to the accepted quality level, by the required schedules, and within the budgeted man-hours allotted to each program.

On a daily basis monitors the progress of production by updating monthly schedules and completing required documentation.

Reports project status as required.

Provides recommendations for product improvement.

Oversees the proper maintenance and use of tools and equipment in the control of Production department.

Monitors the maintenance of the plant daily housekeeping schedule to ensure that the shop is safe, clean, and orderly.

Monitor and maintain all safe working conditions and practices.

Manages multiple projects and budgets, reporting and evaluation status, and the performance of all production tasks so that they are done correctly the first time in order to minimize re-work and excess man-hours.

Monitors and maintains the proper handling and storing of all required materials in order to minimize damage and excess costs.

Establishes production training requirements, monitors and reports results.

Promotes product improvements.

Forecasts manpower requirements by project and/or annually.

Must be able to develop appropriate business strategies aligned to KRC's Management Policy.

Manage position to make best use of employees; select employees and develop their capabilities; plan for succession of key personnel; counsel employees effectively; administer discipline; handle human resource matters in accordance with company policy and procedures.

Establish work standards and schedules and ensure their effective implementation in the department; assign work to employees and train employees in work procedures and methods;

Review employees' work for adequacy and take steps to correct inadequate performance; approve employees' work schedules and time reports.

Qualifications:

At minimum, must have five to eight years experience in production or manufacturing management in rail car or closely related industry.

A Bachelor's degree in manufacturing or related business management may substitute for some experience.

Must be able to direct and coordinate production activities effectively to maintain company delivery schedules.

Must have excellent communication and problem solving skills to coordinate department activities.

Must have strong capabilities to manage and motivate people. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
