Job Summary

The Tax Manager will be responsible for the preparation reconciliation submission documentation and ongoing management of tax compliance matters. The role is intended to strengthen tax compliance documentation quality tax control ZIMRA engagement and management visibility over tax obligations and emerging risks. The role requires a practical operator who can work effectively in Zimbabwes complex and fast-changing tax environment including multi-currency administration fiscalisation requirements high-volume transactions imports payroll taxes withholding taxes and evolving tax authority processes.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare monthly VAT returns input tax schedules output tax reconciliations VAT withholding support schedules credit note support and TaRMS submissions.
  • Prepare monthly PAYE returns reconcile payroll to the general ledger validate tax tables benefits allowances and foreign currency payroll treatment.
  • Prepare WHT returns on suppliers rentals non-resident payments contracts and other relevant transactions.
  • Prepare provisional tax computations annual income tax packs QPD calculations and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare and reconcile AIDS levy computations linked to income tax.
  • Assess and coordinate CGT implications where assets properties or investments are disposed of.
  • Work with procurement and clearing teams to reconcile import documentation duties VAT on imports and trade documentation.
  • Monitor new tax obligations and assess applicability to the business.
  • Monthly reconciliation between VAT control accounts VAT return output VAT input VAT VAT on imports and adjustments.
  • Reconciliation of submitted VAT returns to TaRMS statement balances and period allocations.
  • Rolling reconciliation of QPDs annual computations payments and assessments.
  • Monthly clearing ageing and explanation of open items in all tax-related general ledger accounts.
  • Validate VAT invoices for required statutory features before input tax is claimed.
  • Check that fiscalised invoices and receipts are properly captured and retained.
  • Review zero-rated and exempt transactions where applicable.
  • Maintain a complete monthly VAT audit support file.
  • Maintain a log of ZIMRA queries audits assessments objections submissions and account queries.
  • Request detailed tax account breakdowns where balances require explanation.
  • Review withholding tax VAT deductibility documentary support and tax clauses.
  • Assess VAT income tax withholding tax capital allowances and structuring implications.
  • Ensure tax coding reporting and evidence requirements are considered in system design and reporting.
  • TaRMS balances vs internal reconciliations open allocation matters and correspondence status.
  • Emerging risks high-risk transactions documentation weaknesses and control gaps.
  • Input tax exceptions missing documents non-compliant invoices and unresolved withholding certificates.
Key Skills:
  • Strong Zimbabwe tax compliance experience.
  • Practical experience preparing VAT PAYE WHT QPD and income tax returns.
  • Strong accounting foundation and ability to reconcile tax balances to the general ledger.
  • Experience dealing directly with ZIMRA.
  • Strong understanding of TaRMS and online filing processes.
  • Experience preparing audit support files and responding to tax queries.
  • Ability to read and interpret assessments statements of account and ZIMRA correspondence.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Ability to work with high transaction volumes.
  • Ability to handle USD and ZWG reconciliations.
  • Strong documentation discipline.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines without repeated supervision.
  • Former ZIMRA employee preferably with exposure to VAT income tax audit compliance or large taxpayer matters.
  • Accounting qualification or strong accounting background.
  • Experience in retail manufacturing distribution imports or multi-branch businesses.
  • Exposure to ERP systems and tax data extraction.
  • Experience dealing with tax audits objections and reconciliations.
  • Knowledge of fiscalisation requirements.
  • Understanding of related party transactions and transfer pricing principles.
Qualifications:
  • Degree in Accounting Finance Taxation or equivalent.
  • Professional qualification or part qualification such as ACCA CIS ICAZ CIMA or equivalent.
  • Tax training or ZIMRA technical training.
  • Former ZIMRA training will be a significant advantage.
