Vestibular Science Fellow

License Requirement: Must meet eligibility for Tennessee licensure in Audiology prior to hire date.
Position Summary
The Vestibular Science Fellowship is a one-year clinical and research training program within the Division of Vestibular Sciences at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The Fellow participates in advanced clinical training in the Balance Disorders Clinic (BDC) completes didactic coursework and contributes to ongoing research projects within the Sensory Physiology and Integrated Neuro-Vestibular (SPIN) Laboratory. The Fellow practices under supervision until they demonstrate competency to practice independently.
Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical Training & Patient Care
Conduct thorough dizziness and balance case histories
Administer and interpret vestibular diagnostic tests including ENG/VNG ocular motor testing caloric testing rotary chair testing vHIT VEMP posturography and BPPV assessments.
Participate in supervised clinical training until approved for independent practice and patient schedule.
Complete approximately 8 hours per week of audiology diagnostics in the ENT/otology clinic
Prepare vestibular diagnostic reports and consult with clinical supervisors and peers
Adapt patient counseling for varying educational levels.
Didactic & Educational Participation
Audit the Vestibular Sciences specialty course sequence during the academic year.
Attend weekly teaching conferences.
Assist in the training of undergraduate and graduate students working in the SPIN lab.
May present lectures or research findings to AuD graduate students.
Research Responsibilities
Participate in existing and fellow-initiated research projects.
Collect organize and interpret research data.
Assist in research design and literature synthesis.
Learn to troubleshoot equipment implement statistical analysis and analyze research data.
Achieve co-authorship on at least one peer-reviewed publication.
Administer and interpret research tools used within the SPIN lab including EEG galvanic vestibular stimulation etc.
Serve as first author or co-author on at least one manuscript.
May present research findings at national conferences.
Minimum Qualifications
Eligibility for the Tennessee Audiology license before the hire date
ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology before hire date
Graduate-level training in Audiology (Au.D. or equivalent)
Demonstrated interest in vestibular sciences and research.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively in clinical and research environments.
