Job Summary
Normandy Schools Collaborative is seeking an experienced Middle School Computer Science Teacherto support school efforts by supporting and executing a shared vision and mission for enhanced student learning to achieve dramatic gains in student achievement. This position will report to the Principal and will support the vision for school culture and academics support a rigorous plan for students and support the schools to ensure that students graduate career and college ready.
Summary of Position:
Supervise and manage the school library/media center. Provide services and resources that allow students to develop skills in locating evaluating synthesizing and using information to solve problems. Serve as teacher materials expert and curriculum adviser to ensure that library/media center is involved in instructional programs of the school.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging computer science lessons aligned with school and/or state standards
- Teach topics such as basic programming (e.g. Scratch Python) algorithms digital citizenship and technology applications
- Develop hands-on projects that encourage creativity and real-world problem-solving
- Assess student progress through assignments projects and assessments
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and skill levels
- Integrate technology effectively into classroom instruction
- Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment
- Collaborate with other teachers and staff to support interdisciplinary learning
- Communicate regularly with students parents and administration about progress and expectations
- Stay current with emerging technologies and teaching methods
- Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
- Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues students and parents.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge ofcomputer science
- Ability to instruct and manage student behavior.
- Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Education or a related field (Masters preferred)
- Valid teaching certification/licensure (as required by state or district)
- Experience teaching middle school students (preferred)
- Knowledge of programming languages suitable for beginners (e.g. Scratch Python JavaScript)
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
Preferred:
- Experience with robotics game design or web development
- Familiarity with STEM/STEAM curricula
- Experience with learning management systems (e.g. Google Classroom Canvas)
