- Oversee end-to-end import operations including procurement planning shipment scheduling and customs clearance across Central African countries.
- Manage relationships with freight forwarders customs brokers local agents and international suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods.
- Ensure full compliance with local and international trade regulations including import licensing tariffs documentation and reporting requirements.
- Lead the preparation and validation of import documentation (commercial invoices packing lists bills of lading certificates of origin etc.).
- Monitor and analyze import performance metrics (lead times clearance delays duty costs carrier performance) to identify improvement opportunities.
- Collaborate with procurement finance and logistics teams to align import activities with business objectives and budget targets.
- Implement and maintain digital import tracking systems to enhance visibility and accountability across the supply chain.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for supply chain disruptions regulatory changes or geopolitical factors.
- Train and mentor junior import specialists and coordinate cross-functional teams during peak import periods.
- Stay current on trade policy updates regional trade agreements (e.g. ECCAS AfCFTA) and emerging market trends in Central Africa.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management Logistics International Business or a related field.
- 25 years of progressive experience in import operations supply chain management or logistics within emerging markets preferably in Central Africa.
- Proven track record in managing complex import processes across multiple jurisdictions with diverse regulatory environments.
- In-depth knowledge of customs procedures international trade compliance and documentation standards (Incoterms HS codes etc.).
- Strong proficiency with ERP and logistics management systems (e.g. SAP Oracle or similar).
- Excellent analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills with a focus on operational efficiency.
- Fluency in English and French (mandatory); additional local languages are a strong advantage.
- Ability to travel frequently within Central Africa to support field operations and vendor engagements.
- Experience with trade compliance software and digital documentation platforms is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities in a fast-paced multicultural environment.
