Job Summary

Lead the development implementation and continuous improvement of quality management systems (QMS) aligned with ISO 9001 and industry best practices.
Oversee all quality control processes across steel production including raw material inspection in-process testing and final product verification.
Conduct root cause analysis of quality defects and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to ensure long-term resolution.
Collaborate with production engineering and supply chain teams to ensure quality standards are embedded in all operational workflows.
Manage calibration and maintenance of quality testing equipment and ensure adherence to metrology standards.
Monitor key quality performance indicators (KPIs) such as defect rates rework percentages and customer complaint metrics; report insights to senior management.
Lead internal and external audits prepare for third-party certifications and ensure compliance with local and international regulations.
Train and mentor quality assurance personnel and foster a culture of quality excellence across the plant.
Liaise with clients and third-party inspectors to address quality concerns and ensure timely resolution of non-conformances.
Implement data-driven quality improvement initiatives using statistical process control (SPC) and other analytical tools.

Requirements

Bachelors degree in Metallurgical Engineering Materials Science Quality Management or a related technical field.
25 years of progressive experience in quality management within heavy industry with a strong focus on steel manufacturing or metal production.
Proven experience in ISO 9001 implementation and audit management.
In-depth knowledge of steel production processes including blast furnace basic oxygen furnace continuous casting and rolling operations.
Proficiency in quality tools and methodologies: SPC FMEA 8D PDCA and Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher preferred).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and drive actionable outcomes.
Excellent communication and leadership abilities with experience managing cross-functional teams.
Familiarity with regulatory standards relevant to steel production in Africa (e.g. SANS EN ASTM or ISO standards).
