Job Summary

To ensure quality and cost effective maintenance of all company vehicles. The job also entails effective use of company resources (Financial human information and capital).

Responsibilities:
Maintains a vehicle downtime of 2.5% of the total fleet under his/her control.
Produces and adheres to vehicle service and maintenance plans.
Ensures that all vehicles are technically compliant with the road traffic act and ensures all anomalies are rectified immediately to avoid unnecessary service disruptions and fines emanating from mechanical defects.
Ensures prompt responses to all breakdowns and accidents.
Carries out daily vehicle inspections to ensure vehicles are kept in a clean mechanically sound and visually appealing state. Follows-up on the inspections and timeously rectifies identified problems.
Ensures quality of workmanship on all repairs and maintenance work for both in-house and out-sourced work.
Ensures that all breakdown vehicles trips have a trip sheet and they are completed as per approved SOPs.
Maintains full job contact so as to ensure high quality output from the workshop.
Prepares and inspects all vehicles for VID and COF repairs.
Ensures correct parts are ordered as per the work required in terms of both quantity and quality and that they have been authorised for withdrawal from stores.
Makes a follow up on all outstanding work and daily inspections rectifies identified faults immediately. Ensures that all technicians accurately complete and submit job cards.
Signs-off completed job cards and performs quality checks before the vehicle is released to the customer.
Develops a duty rosters and daily registers for all workshop staff to maintain correct staff numbers and to ensure non-disruption of service.
Ensures that BIL adheres to warranty terms and conditions.
Ensures that all outsourced jobs have valid and authorized orders.
Ensures that Mechanics produce daily workshop tracking reports accurately and timeously.
Timeously produces accurate statistical operational and management reports to ensure clarity on current fleet operations. These reports may be produced daily weekly or monthly. (Examples of the reports are: R&M reports tyre reports service reports breakdown reports staff reports DPR accidents etc.). Manages the workshop team in accordance with the organisations HR policies and processes. Seeks specialist advice from HR team where in doubt.
Ensures daily position reports are competed correctly and submitted daily on time.
Identifies skills gaps within the workshop and recommends the appropriate training.
Ensures that each subordinate employee has a valid signed contract TORs & scorecards and that they understand what is expected of them.
Carries out quarterly all workshop staff performance reviews against their score cards.
Initiates disciplinary action for staff where necessary in accordance with the NEC CBA for the Transport Industry.
Represents management in disciplinary proceedings as and when required.
Co-ordinates any overtime work required. Properly maintains all the workshop tools and equipment to effectively perform vehicle maintenance functions.
Ensures that all contractors (suppliers/service providers) have valid signed contracts.
Authorises the issuance and monitors usage of all spares and consumables on each job.
Key Skills:
Must have strong knowledge of vehicle automotive systems.
Must have wide diagnostic skills which include mechanical electronics and general.
Must know both pneumatic and hydraulic braking systems.
Must be able to diagnose engines gearboxes electrical braking and transmission faults.
Must have good communication planning and organisational skills.
Good inter-personal skills and ability to work in a team
Good judgment and strong profit oriented decision making skills.
Must display high levels of responsibility and accountability.
Pro-active management style with initiativeness dynamism and assertiveness
Hard worker with high levels of energy and self-motivation able to establish and maintain an effective working relationships with subordinates co-workers Managers and general public customers and other key stakeholders.
At least 5 years post qualification experience with at least 2 of them at Supervisory or Management level.
Experience in FMCG Distribution Industry will be an asset.
Qualifications
A minimum of a National Certificate in Motor Mechanics/Diesel Plant Fitting.
Other Training and qualifications in Supervisory Management will be an added advantage.
Technical Training in vehicle diagnostics systems Health and Safety Tyre Care Road Traffic accident Investigations will be an added advantage.
A clean class 2 Drivers licence a must.
