Pima Countys Conservation Lands Department is seeking highly motivated and hard-working individual to fill a position as Natural Resources Program this position you will work within the Parks and Trails Division of Conservation Lands & Resources supporting the operations of Gilbert Ray Campground in Tucson Mountain Park. This role manages the operations of the campground including customer service reservations volunteer camp hosts and visitor center clerks staff schedules site improvements and way finding.
The position is field-oriented often in remote areas with exposure to extreme summer temperatures and cold winter temperatures and requires the candidate to be in excellent physical condition. The campground reservation system is web-based and requires excellent computer skills. Creating a positive work environment at the campground is essential as volunteer camp hosts live on site and RV campers arrive in high volume during winter and spring seasons.
Essential Functions:

Assists in development of program goals objectives policies procedures and plans;
Performs a variety of program-related administrative functions including supervision training and evaluation of staff and/or volunteers;
Assists with development and administration of program budgets grant applications and administrative activities including budget tracking purchasing and preparing written reports;
Coordinates hiring and directing activities of contractors;
Monitors and provides recommendations on contractor performance;
Coordinates implementation of community outreach activities and serves as a representative of the program making program-related presentations assisting with the preparation of news releases and other media materials and participating in the development of community awareness programs and other efforts to promote public understanding of program activities services and requirements;
Performs on-the-ground field work that supports program goals and objectives including but not limited to invasive species surveys treatments and treatment monitoring and other natural resources conservation and management duties as assigned;
Maintains specialized databases contain program-specific information;
Collects and trains others in the use of geospatial data;
Analyzes data reviewing and providing quality-control checks on program-specific data collected by others;
Evaluates program effectiveness and provides recommendations to the program manager;
Develops and/or provides input to written reports as needed;
Coordinates with internal and external partners to advance and implement program goals and objectives.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with a major in management public or business administration natural resources conservation biology botany wildlife management rangeland management environmental science or a field closely related to Natural Resource/Parks and Recreation as defined by the department head at the time of recruitment AND one year of experience coordinating monitoring and/or administering program activities or providing professional-level administrative support for a program or specialized work unit.
OR:
One year of experience with Pima County in a Natural Resources Program Specialist or related professional administrative classification as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):
Minimum six (6) months experience working in a campground on public lands in a natural resource setting.
Minimum six (6) months experience coordinating campground reservations in a web-based reservation system.
Minimum six (6) months experience delivering customer service to RV campers and successfully resolving campground reservation changes and refunds.
Minimum six (6) months experience supervising clerks and volunteers in a campground.
Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Licenses and Certificates:Valid driver license is required at time of application.ValidAZdriver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services review and approval of the candidates driving Certified Pesticide Applicator license is required for Natural Resources Program Coordinator positions where treatment of invasive species by pesticides is required as determined by the department head. Failure to obtain / maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination.
Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history education and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the positions within this classification may require up to two years of prior supervisory experience (as determined by the department head) and may require irregular work schedules and/or travel. Some positions within this classification carry a low risk of exposure to infectious diseases. Therefore special medical screening prior to or during employment may be necessary to ensure employee health and safety.
Physical/Sensory Requirements: Must be able to withstand the rigors of off-trail travel in remote locations for one or more days per week while carrying a heavy backpack and/or tools often in extreme temperatures and in steep desert terrain. Spends some time in an office setting working at a computer station. Must be capable of driving for long distances at a time up to 3 hours one-way. Must be able to use County-provided smart phone or other mobile device to collect geospatial data in the field. May be required to operate heavy equipment drive with a trailer in tow or drive ATVs/UTVs in field settings. May be required to lift and/or carry heavy objects.
Working Conditions: The Natural Resources Program Coordinator operates in both a professional office setting and in an outdoor field setting. Regular daily attendance is an essential function for this position. This position is eligible for occasional telework at the discretion of the hiring department.
