General Purpose
This position is responsible for supporting the planning designing organizing staffing directing controlling and evaluating recreation/leisure programming for Burlington Parks Recreation & Waterfront youth programs. This position creates and facilitates both licensed and non-licensed programming for school age kids with an emphasis on filling childcare gaps during afterschool hours school vacations and breaks.

Pay Grade 15: $28.65 - $31.92 Hourly
Remote Tier 2: Up to one (1) day remote/week
Essential Job Functions
Primary Responsibilities
- Plan and design recreation/leisure programming
- Lead and direct recreational programming as needed
- Establish with supervisor program goals objectives and outcomes for programs.
- Ensure that all programs and activities comply with department safety rules and regulations.
- Follow City policy for collections of fees and charges for recreation activities and events.
- Market programs in accordance with department policies.
- Evaluate participation attendance trends effectiveness and efficiencies of program activities.
- Budget expenditures/revenues for program/event development and monitor revenue and expenditures for assigned programs.
- Develop reinforce and sustain positive working relations and partnerships with public private volunteer and commercial organizations.
- Ensure conformance with collaborative policies guidelines and practices with partners.
- Recruit select supervise and evaluate part-time temporary and seasonal staff and volunteers for programming.
- Coordinate with supervisor staff/volunteer training and orientations and lead as needed general leisure programming.
- Prepare and submit reports and records as requested by supervisor.
- Procure inventory and issue supplies materials and equipment as needed ensuring all supplies are available to facilitate quality program offerings.
Secondary Responsibilities- Support in the design procedures and make recommendations to supervisor on effective and efficient use of department and community resources.
- Support Recreation staff in planning and implementing other special events and activities.
- Support in program transportation needs with department bus and/or van.
- Assist in the preparation with supervisor of fundraising sponsorship and grant applications. Attend individual and department meetings as required.
- May do programming outside of the area of focus.

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements
- Ability to actively support City diversity equity and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.
- Bachelors Degree in Education Recreation/Leisure Education Management or closely related experience may be substituted for a degree requirement on a two-for-one year basis.
- Two (2) years experience in supervision/administration of Recreation/Leisure Management services in youth programs or as Education Professional.
- Ability to obtain and maintain professional certification as CPRP or CTRS from National Recreation and Parks Association within 12 months of hire.
- Knowledge of and experience in the principles and practices of recreation services.
- Well-developed organizational skills to oversee simultaneous programs at various forms of development implementation and evaluation.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to subordinates and supervisor partners and program participants.
- Ability to recruit guide develop motivate and sustain subordinate staff and volunteers.
- Ability to develop and adapt a schedule of services to meet the needs of a diverse population.
- Knowledge of budgetary procedures and practices; experience in same preferred.
- Ability to be a productive member within a strong team environment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Experience in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to provide courteous and professional customer service.
- Ability to work evening and weekends hours.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Red Cross CPR and First-Aid Certification within 60 days of hire.
- Successful pass State of Vermont Childcare Criminal Check.
- Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions.
- Ability to understand and comply with City standards safety rules and personnel policies.
- Valid drivers license in good standing and the continued maintenance of drivers license. Operation of a City vehicle or personal vehicle to conduct City business without providing proof of a valid drivers license to Human Resources will not be permitted. A valid drivers license shall be defined as a current state of residence-issued license to operate a motor vehicle on public roadways. Position also requires the ability to be covered under the Citys vehicle insurance policy prior to operation of any City vehicles or non-City vehicles for City business
