Summary: |
Provide day-to-day support of the districts network and phone infrastructure and classroom a/v technology. This includes installation and troubleshooting of wired network drops wireless connectivity classroom and administrative phones classroom projectors and displays throughout the buildings. This position is primarily a support role for the Network Specialist and Network Media Specialist roles with a primary emphasis on supporting major building renovations and construction projects. |
Qualifications: |
- Degree in Information Technology Computer Science or related field or experience in a similar role is required.
- Minimum of two years of required experience in an information technology related field.
- Knowledge of data network concepts including TCP/IP HTTPS wireless protocols and web internet services.
- Related certifications preferred such as CISCO CCST or CCNA CompTIA Network Azure Network Engineer Associate or equivalent.
- MA Systems Technician or Electricians License preferred
- Previous work experience installing network phone and a/v equipment preferred.
- Effective Communication skills both verbally and in writing with technical and non-technical audiences.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (Not Limited To): |
- Assist with the planning and oversight of technology related systems in building construction projects including communication with vendors building staff and district staff.
- Assist with the installation and troubleshooting of technology associated with building construction projects.
- Support the installation and maintenance of wired and wireless networks throughout all buildings including installation of wireless access points network switches network wiring uninterruptible power supplies and other network systems.
- Support the installation and maintenance of VoIP phone equipment throughout the buildings including phone installation programming and wiring.
- Support the installation of school-based audio/visual technology including classroom projectors digital displays document cameras and classroom audio equipment.
- Provide a point of escalation for building tech support staff when troubleshooting network phone and audio visual equipment.
- Effectively carry out multiple competing tasks managing time and prioritizing work to ensure that assigned projects and tasks are completed in a timely fashion.
- Advocate for inform others about and adhere to the IT policies hardware and software standards security policies and operational procedures of the Technology Department to ensure consistent application across the district.
- Manage resolve and respond to assigned tickets through the departments IT support ticketing system.
- Work effectively in a fast-paced team-oriented work environment.
- Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements: |
- This role involves moving and installing technology equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- This role requires the use of ladders and specialized tools to install and mount network phone and a/v equipment and to install cabling under raised floors above suspended ceilings and in crawl spaces.
- This role requires driving between building locations throughout the City of Newton - access to reliable transportation throughout the day is required.
