About Galambila

Galambila Aboriginal Health Service delivers culturally safe holistic primary health care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on Gumbaynggirr Country. Established in 1998 Galambila has grown into a large multidisciplinary service supporting the health and wellbeing of the local community. Services include general medical care chronic disease management mental health allied health dental maternal and child health youth health and a range of outreach and community programs. All programs are delivered in a culturally informed welcoming and community-driven way.

Galambilas work is guided by the values of Compassion Respect Empowerment Inclusivity and Accountability. Governance is provided by a community-elected Board with daily operations led by the CEO and leadership team to ensure services reflect community needs and aspirations.

Position Purpose

The Family Support Worker (Youth) provides culturally safe practical strengths-based support to Aboriginal young people aged approximately 1225 years and their families. The role focuses on early intervention youth engagement wellbeing promotion goal planning service navigation and coordinated support to strengthen resilience identity connection and overall wellbeing.

The Family Support Worker (Youth) works as part of the multidisciplinary Child Youth & Family (CYF) Health team working closely with Psychologists Social Workers Registered Nurses and Aboriginal Health Workers to deliver holistic culturally grounded support to young people.

The Family Support Worker (youth):

Delivers culturally safe trauma-informed and strengths-based therapeutic and casework support that enhances the social emotional and developmental wellbeing of Aboriginal children young people and their families.

Provides youth-focused one-on-one support mentoring and guidance to strengthen wellbeing confidence connection and cultural identity.

Supports early intervention and identifies emerging risks escalating concerns to the CYF clinical team when needed.

Plans and delivers youth engagement activities group programs outreach and wellbeing initiatives tailored to the needs of young people.

Assists young people to access services and opportunities including health mental health education training recreation and community programs.

Maintains accurate documentation and contributes to reporting quality improvement and evaluation supporting effective and accountable youth servic

Key Aspects of the Role

Supporting young people with complex social emotional or family situations.

Maintaining consistent engagement with young people who may experience instability.

Balancing support work program delivery and administrative demands.

Navigating service systems with variable accessibility.

Provide culturally safe support across diverse needs and situations.

Person Specification

Essential

Certificate IV or Diploma in Youth Work Community Services Family Support or similar.

Experience working with young people in community wellbeing or engagement roles.

Understanding of youth development trauma-informed practice and cultural safety.

Strong communication engagement and rapport-building skills.

Ability to identify risks exercise sound judgement and escalate concerns.

Experience facilitating group programs workshops or youth activities.

Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Current NSW Drivers Licence WWCC and National Criminal History Check.

Desirable

Aboriginality.

Experience in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation.

Knowledge of local services youth supports cultural leaders and community pathways.
