Job Summary

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Senior Digital Manager is responsible for the technical and organizational aspects of the cardiovascular information systems including systems in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab Cardiac Electrophysiology Lab Echocardiography Lab and Nuclear Lab. Responsibilities include but are not limited to administrative duties maintenance of data reporting staff training personnel hiring disciplinary actions and the overall day to day operations of the Cardiovascular IT Service. This position functions as a liaison for end users and leaders within the Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI) and with other MGH departments partners and outside entities.

This role works collaboratively with HVI administration as well as nursing and physician leadership throughout the HVI to oversee the effective implementation and management of the clinical informatics infrastructure that supports the delivery of patient care. S/he will function as the team lead for cardiology application managers and developers. S/he is expected to effectively participate in team building staff member scheduling quality monitoring & quality improvement and staff recruitment feedback and professional development.

This position reports to the Director of Cardiology Informatics Administrative Director of Cardiology and the MGB Digital Clinical Lead to the HVI. The position will collaborate with and receive guidance from clinical and administrative leaders in the invasive and noninvasive procedural labs.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership:
Work with senior leaders to establish and lead the IT priorities and goals for the HVI
Manage the day-to-day activities of a team of IT professionals. Focus on producing the teams deliverables on time and within budget
Attract retain and develop high quality staff. Establish and maintain a work environment conducive to high performance. Address the training and professional development needs of the staff
Plan coverage schedule for vacation and unscheduled absences.
Collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues and other hospital personnel to facilitate daily operations as well as furthering the mission of the HVI and MGH
Provide coaching and evaluate performance of direct reports. Conduct annual evaluations and ensure competency and ongoing compliance with job requirements and standards. Develop and implement remediation and corrective action plans when needed
Promote and encourage a high-quality customer service experience for all customers internal and external
Provide input quotes and prioritization of projects for the annual capital budget
Attend and participate in departmental hospital and health system meetings

Business Process Management:
Process-flow Mapping - Mapping for primary business operations mode (Registration Ordering Scheduling Image Acquisition Image Viewing Diagnostic Reporting and Viewing Billing Management Reporting and Viewing)
Workflow Mapping - Role based mapping for primary business end-users (Administrative Technologists Providers)
Data Mapping - Mapping data within and between primary business systems/applications
Prepare reports on all aspects of informatics systems for managers and division administration as appropriate or directed.
Conduct ongoing analysis of all relevant informatics systems with goal of discussing/ mitigating/ remediating major issues.
Lead the effort to define and deploy standard operating procedures as it relates to the administration support and maintenance of: cardiovascular information systems including Cardiac Catheterization & Cardiac Electrophysiology Lab reporting databases PACS cardiac electrophysiology recording and mapping systems and cardiovascular hemodynamic measurement systems and all related subsystems; integration between applications; scheduled and unscheduled downtimes; communication with users; and disaster recovery.
Attend seminars and training sessions necessary to maintain appropriate level of professional competence.

Systems / Application Management:
Testing - End to end testing of process flows workflows and data flows. Develops maintains and executes quality control/validation test plans associated with system upgrades
Training - Educating and/or coaching colleagues and end-users on process flows workflows and data flows. Provides user training for applications.
Ensure the smooth running of the underlying architecture associated with the PACS & hemodynamics components e.g. application database web tablets interfaces integration storage subsystems and disaster recovery systems.
Participate in the monitoring maintaining upgrading and/or re-engineering of related interfaces.
Provide support in the event of technical issues or problems associated with PACS/hemodynamics and their subcomponents.
Monitor Service Requests generated for: cardiovascular information systems including Cardiac Catheterization & Cardiac Electrophysiology Lab reporting databases PACS cardiac electrophysiology recording and mapping systems and cardiovascular hemodynamic measurement systems and all related subsystems and hardware to ensure timely responses and closure of all tickets.
Perform other functions as required and/or assigned.

Qualifications

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

  • Ability to carry out position with high degree of customer service communication teamwork and timeliness.

  • Must be able to work effectively with diverse groups of people.

  • Outstanding business process analytic skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Familiarity with cardiovascular Information Systems in general and industry standards such as HL7 and DICOM communication.

  • Strong technical and general IS skills including hardware software personal computers and networking.

  • Skill and experience in IS project planning System Development Life-Cycle implementation and performance analysis.

  • Ability to work well under pressure and on concurrent multidisciplinary projects.

  • Proficiency in office automation systems i.e. Windows OS MS Office etc.

LICENSES CERTIFICATIONS and/or REGISTRATIONS

  • PACS administration certification preferred.

  • MS Visual studio development skill preferred.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelors Degree required

EXPERIENCE:

  • Progressive experience in digital/IT positions within relevant IT discipline. 8-10 years required and Management/Leadership experience 3-5 years required

  • Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) experience required.

  • Experience with healthcare information systems and/or medical imaging operations desirable.

  • SQL server and MS Access skills desirable.

  • Able to work in a dynamic and fast paced quaternary healthcare environment.
