Position Title: APS6 Work Health and Safety Advisor

Employment Type: Approx. 12-month Section 26 transfer

Location: Canberra

Hourly Pay Rate: $94563 $105909 per annum plus 15.4% superannuation

Security Clearance/Requirements:Ability to obtain/maintain NV1 clearance

ABOUT THE ROLE

An Australian Government agency is seeking a proactive and experienced APS6 Work Health and Safety (WHS) Advisor to support the development implementation and continuous improvement of WHS practices across the organisation.

This role sits within a people-focused branch that delivers core human resource and workforce capability functions. You will provide expert WHS advice lead initiatives that promote a positive safety and wellbeing culture and work closely with stakeholders at all levels to ensure a safe compliant and supportive workplace.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct review and document WHS risk assessments across work areas in line with legislative and policy requirements

  • Maintain and update WHS risk registers hazard logs and incident records

  • Coordinate internal WHS audits and inspections and follow up corrective actions

  • Lead and support investigations into WHS incidents and near misses

  • Draft review and maintain WHS policies procedures and guidelines in accordance with record-keeping obligations

  • Support delivery of WHS inductions and training for staff and contractors

  • Provide expert WHS advice to managers and staff

  • Coordinate and facilitate WHS committee meetings and working groups

  • Analyse WHS data identify trends and prepare reports for executive review

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to interpret the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and associated legislation instruments and codes of practice

  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Strong organisational skills with high attention to detail

  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to coordinate and contribute to projects and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Experience using WHS systems such as incident reporting platforms and risk registers
