The Laboratory Quality Officer is a field-based position with the primary role of:
Coordinating operational activities in SCH managed & affiliated laboratories by supervising and assisting technical support to technicians ensuring that SCH operated lab procedures & guidelines are set up up-to-date and functioning properly and liaising with respective stakeholders (National TB Program National AIDS Program National Health Laboratory and others) for lab related matters.
The duties and responsibilities of the Laboratory Quality Officer include:
- Conduct regular QoC visits to SCH operated and affiliated labs and diagnostic centers for laboratory-related quality assurance assessments and take corrective and preventive actions for Major errors.
- Provide technical supervision and mentorship to laboratory staff and trainees of affiliated centers regarding technical contents biosafety and laboratory practices according to global and national guidelines.
- Implement and monitor internal and external quality assurance programs to ensure accuracy and reliability of results
- Participate in audits and proficiency testing to ensure laboratory accreditation standards are met.
- Address and resolve non-conformities identified during quality checks.
- Organize the collection External TB quality control slides monthly and send to respective NTP & SCH-HQ.
- Collect and track TB EQA feedback from NTP on monthly basis and inform Major error finding to as soon as possible.
- Coordinate with National Programs and counter departments for panel tests and ensure timely submission of the panel results.
- Regularly calculate indents check and update inventory levels for reagents consumables and laboratory related items as per National protocols and guidelines.
- Proper inventory management by inspecting incoming stock for quality damage and compliance with laboratory standards and minimizing waste.
- Schedule and operate regular calibration servicing and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Submit TB microscopy Gene MTB/RIF Ultra and all relevant reports on monthly basis.
- Serve as a liaison between laboratory staff management clinicians and external agencies
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the project as required.
Qualifications :
The key skills required for the position of the Laboratory Quality Officer include:
Technical skills: Must have demonstrated skill knowledge and experience in laboratory diagnosis procedures (especially TB and HIV) and quality assurance proven skills in facilitating or delivering training.
Operational knowledge: Must have understanding the basic knowledge on day-to-day office related work as part of Quality Improvement team at Laboratory
Operational management: Must be able to manage time effectively to meet the targets ability to analyze information evaluate options and to think and plan strategically
Communication skills: Must have demonstrated ability to communicate (both verbal and written) effectively and strong interpersonal skills
Qualifications:
- (Medical Laboratory Technology) or Diploma or Laboratory technician Grade I
- Having experience in proper data validation
- Must be able to work flexible hours
- Good interpersonal and communication
- Good in written and spoken English
- Good command in computer skills (Microsoft office applications: word excel and power-point presentation
- Preferably to have ability to perform duties on own initiative with limited supervision.
