The Work Unit: TheHealth Facilities and Emergency Medical Services Division (HFEMSD)plays a vital role in protecting the health and safety of Coloradans. The division oversees and enforces state and federal regulations for a wide variety of health care providersincluding hospitals clinics ambulatory surgical centers dialysis facilities emergency medical service (EMS) providers trauma centers long-term care facilities and many other licensed or certified health care agencies. HFEMSD is responsible forlicensing certifying and surveyingthese facilities; promotingpatient safety and health care quality; andrecognizing EMS education programs and providers. The division alsodesignates trauma centersandlicenses all ground and air ambulance servicesoperating within Colorado. This work units mission is to: Protect the health safety and welfareof patients and residents by ensuring licensed and certified health care facilities comply with all applicable federal and state regulations and professional standards of practice; and Provide transparent public informationon health care facilities to promote accountability and informed decision-making. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by ensuring the safety and quality of care provided by licensed and certified health care agencies across Colorado. As part of an interdisciplinary survey teamor working independentlyyou will assess thecare treatment and quality of lifeof clients and patients through observations interviews and record reviews. Serving as theregistered nurse member of the survey team you will apply your clinical expertise to evaluate compliance with state and federal regulations conduct medication observations and review nursing practices. You will also investigate serious incidents and complaints determine whether agencies responded appropriately and document findings in clear defensible statements of deficiencies. This role requires a professional who can apply critical thinking sound judgment and regulatory knowledge to complex situations. Youll act as aneducator and resourcefor providers and consumers interpreting regulations clarifying expectations and promoting consistent quality and safety across the home care and hospice industry. Conduct comprehensivesurveys and investigationsof licensed and certified health care agencies to evaluate thequality of care services and patient outcomes. Observe interview and review recordsto assess compliance with state and federal regulations. Analyze and interpret evidenceto determine regulatory compliance applying professional judgment and established guidance. Developclear concise and legally defensible statements of deficienciesthat accurately describe noncompliance findings. Investigate complaints and self-reported incidents determining whether facilities responded appropriately to protect patient health and safety. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability and willingness to travel independently or with a group of other health professionals up to 50% of the time throughout Colorado.
Must be willing to work in environments where contagious diseases may be present (appropriate personal protective equipment and procedural protocols will be provided).
Be available in the event of an emergency (e.g. bio-terrorist attack chemical attack disease outbreak or all hazards) and be required to report to work immediately at the regular or alternate location. During this time travel restrictions may be in place.

Must be proficient in word processing and able to use current communication technology to connect to the office from the field.

Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods of timeincluding climbing multiple flights of stairs.
Once employed in this position must successfully complete and apply all required surveyor training (unless training is unavailable) within the first six (6) months of service.
