About the Role
Reporting to the Manager Finance the Financial Analyst is primarily responsible for financial reporting and analytical duties with other duties including supporting the Payroll Coordinator to ensure accurate processing and accounting of payroll information and payments from the payroll system into Sage.

This is a sensitive position which requires a great deal of independence and diplomacy while ensuring confidentiality is maintained when required.

The Financial Analyst Reporting and Payroll will:
  • Prepare various financial reports to government and external funders (AHS AB Health AB Education etc.).
  • Prepare AGLC annual financial reports and monitor expenses throughout the year.
  • Prepare monthly internal financial reporting package to management.
  • Assist with payroll related account reconciliations (pension benefits vacation and flex spending accounts).
  • Assist with processing bi-weekly payroll GL export from payroll system and import to SAGE for reporting.
  • Maintain confidential information by adhering to legal and ethical standards.
  • Serve as backup for making bank deposits and other ad hoc duties as required.
  • Perform forecasting variance analysis and follow up with program or departmental areas.
  • Provide business support to program managers with any financial inquiries or concerns.
  • Prepare the financial statement package for the Finance Committee.
  • Prepare annual pension information return and T1030 charity tax return.
  • Assist with annual budget preparation.
  • Perform month end duties such as preparing journal entries (expense allocations salary reclassifications payroll accruals etc) and account reconciliations.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and duties as required.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Attention to detail and accuracy excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and a positive team-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality integrity and professionalism while working with other department team members.
  • Customer focused willingness to learn effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Valid Class 5 drivers license and access to a vehicle.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in accounting or related field.
  • Minimum three years of progressive accounting experience payroll experience is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Excel Outlook Word).
  • Experience with Sage 300 is beneficial.
