K12 Coordinator for Visual and Performing Arts
The K12 Coordinator for Visual and Performing Arts is responsible for the vision leadership and coordination of the districts arts education programs including visual art music dance and theater. This position supports curriculum development instructional practices and performance opportunities aligned with state standards ensuring equitable access and high-quality arts education for all students. The Coordinator works collaboratively with school and district administrators teachers and community partners and serves as an advocate for the role of the arts in a well-rounded education. The incumbent will be a member of the Woburn Administrators Association Unit B.
Reports To: Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction
Work Year: Will be required to work 200 days
Work Schedule: Shall consist of an eight (8) hour work day
Salary: $115000 - $135000 depending on qualifications and experience
Start Date: The start date is flexible and open to negotiation with a final start date no later than July 1 2026.
Qualifications and Skill Set:
- Masters degree in a related field (e.g. Art Education Music Education Arts Administration).
- Valid Massachusetts DESE licensure in a Visual/Performing Arts content area and as a Supervisor/Director or Principal/Assistant Principal.
- Minimum of three years of Visual/Performing Arts teaching and instructional leadership experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in Visual/Performing Arts curriculum design instructional strategies assessment practices and educational technologies.
- Strong skills in collaboration communication organization and strategic planning.
- Commitment to equity culturally responsive education and inclusive practices.
- Proficiency with educational software and platforms.
Responsibilities:
Curriculum Design and Implementation
- Lead the development implementation and evaluation of K12 arts curricula in alignment with DESE standards and district goals.
- Promote authentic student-centered learning experiences through project-based learning exhibitions and performance opportunities.
- Ensure curricula reflect a diversity of cultures artists genres and artistic traditions promoting equity and inclusion.
Instructional Leadership and Professional Development
- Plan the overall organization or design of instruction including the scope of the program K-12 the sequence of learning activities and the desired outcomes.
- Support teachers in developing lessons that emphasize creativity critical thinking collaboration and communication through the arts.
- Design facilitate and oversee all professional learning for the department including the planning and facilitation of department meetings and teacher collaboration.
- Examine on a continuous basis the curriculum K-12 in terms of its content methodology rubrics grade placement time allocation and evaluation procedures.
- Oversee the coordination and articulation of arts education across elementary middle and high school levels.
Assessment and Data
- Use data from student assessments teacher feedback and program evaluations to drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to assess and improve grading practices student portfolios and performance-based assessments in the arts.
Operational and Program Management
- Develop and manage the districts Visual and Performing Arts program of studies and contribute to course scheduling and staffing.
- Assist in preparing budget proposals and securing grant funding to enhance arts programs.
- Attend district evening and weekend visual and performing art department performances.
- Create and manage event calendars for all events.
- Lead and manage all aspects of Tannerfest the annual K-12 Arts Celebration including budget oversight theme development ordering public relations and comprehensive departmental collaboration.
Staff Supervision and Evaluation
- Supervise and evaluate teacher performance in order to discuss strengths resolve problems and exchange ideas for the purpose of improving curriculum methods of instructions and determining continued employment.
- Support recruitment hiring and onboarding of arts educators.
Collaboration and Partnerships
- Maintain contact with the high school auditorium manager for performances and maintenance of equipment and upgrades.
- Represent the district in cross-district and statewide organizations attending meetings and collaborating on educational initiatives to inform and align local practices with broader trends and policies.
- Establish partnerships with local and regional cultural institutions artists and arts organizations to enrich student learning.
- Advocate for the arts in the district and community by promoting performances exhibits and student work.
Equity and Access
- Ensure that all students especially underrepresented populations in Visual/Performing Arts have access to challenging and inclusive learning opportunities.
- Lead efforts to integrate culturally relevant pedagogy in Visual/Performing Arts classes.
Technology Integration
- Champion the effective use of educational technology in Visual/Performing Arts classrooms.
- Provide support and training on emerging digital tools and district platforms to maximize student engagement and skill development.
Other Duties
- Perform related responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent to support district goals and strategic plans.
