Whats the role

This is your chance to join Westpacs independent validation team to help provide insight oversight and control over the models that drive some of the most critical decisions in the bank. Youll be part of the Model Risk team and perform hands-on validations challenging everything from methodology and implementation to data and documentation. Youll work closely with senior leaders and stakeholders across the business building strong relationships while uplifting model risk practices. Beyond validation youll help refine toolkits improve processes and champion the voice of Model Risk ensuring our models are robust compliant and delivering better risk outcomes. Based in Sydney this is a full-time role offering exposure to enterprise-wide risk models and the chance to make a tangible impact.

What do I need

To thrive in this role youll need a mix of technical ability and clear communication skills. Youll be comfortable diving into complex models but just as confident explaining your findings in plain language. Heres what will set you up for success:

  • Strong programming skills in SAS SQL R or Python.
  • Experience developing or validating mathematical models.
  • Excellent written communication for producing clear structured reports.
  • Ability to simplify complex concepts and communicate insights effectively.
  • A curious problem-solving mindset with the confidence to challenge constructively.
