Duties:






The Collections Coordinator will be responsible for the Lloydminster Museum Archives (LMA) Collections Management and Exhibition Planning & Development. The Collections Coordinator is responsible for the maintenance and preservation of the collection as well as all collection management procedures including storage and display. The Collections Coordinator will provide support in grant procurement marketing and act as liaison with external individuals & groups. This position provides research and content support for exhibitions and programs as well as responsible for the implementation of Museum outreach initiatives. The LMA looks to enrich our collections exhibitions and operations with their research and knowledge.

Collections & Exhibition Development:
  • Coordinate and maintain the LMAs Heritage and Fine Art Collection through best practices and industry standards.
  • Provide input on the Collections Management Policy and coordinate the Collection Management Procedures as outlined; including accessioning cataloguing storage use preservation and deaccessioning of the collections.
  • Complete research initiatives on the collection including the development of interpretive signage and curation of exhibitions.
  • Provide direction regarding the storage presentation installation and conservation of objects in the collection.
  • Coordinate and monitor restoration and exhibition projects including preparing requests for proposals designing/writing project specifications securing and analyzing quotes monitoring project progress and evaluating final results.
  • Manage and maintain the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) system for all collection locations.
  • Delegate collections management & exhibition projects and taskwork to Museum Technicians and volunteers follow up with work product ensure proper completion of projects.

Administration:
  • Write and administer grants for museum collections conservation exhibitions and related projects.
  • Coordinate the LMAs temporary exhibition schedule.
  • Research develop curate fabricate and install temporary exhibitions including web projects.
  • Responsible for the accuracy of staff and volunteer data entry auditing artifact records and maintaining database records.
  • Conduct research for exhibitions publications and programs as assigned.
  • Ensures compliance with Canadian legislation and national privacy regulations as they relate to the Museums Collection.
  • Track expenses allocated for collections supplies conservation and collections storage.
  • Responsible for research support policy development and administration for the Citys Public
  • Art Program.
  • Responsible to developing and supporting outreach initiatives to promote the LMAs services programs and collections to the community.
Other:
  • Interpret and present the City of Lloydminsters history through programs and exhibits to provide education to audiences and guests of all ages.
  • Develop maintain and cultivate a network with other institutions that possess relevant holdings.
  • Assists with marketing and promotional initiatives.
  • Handle inquiries from researchers and the public including past and future potential artifact donors.
  • Liaise with the internal and external stakeholders including members of the community volunteers artists and external boards.
  • Acts as the Lead Hand as required and assigned by the Manager LMA.
  • Comply with health and safety policy and procedures at all times.
  • Other related duties as required.
Schedule:
The position is based in an office with regular requirement to work in a warehouse outdoors and in heritage buildings with inclement weather dust and dirty working conditions. Long hours of standing and walking are required. Must be able to lift 35Ibs. The position is required to work some weekends evenings and statutory holidays.
Qualifications:
  • A Degree in Museum Studies History Material Culture or relevant field is required along with a minimum of 3-5 years experience working in a public museum.
  • Must have experience and knowledge in museum standards and best practices exhibitions cataloguing conservation and storage practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills professional and tactful in dealings with donors volunteers and the public.
  • Experience with community work historic interpretation and knowledge of material culture.
  • Must be able to speak and write effectively for the public and for individuals across cultures where English may not be a first language.
  • Strong analytical and research skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather in historical houses workshops and mechanic work areas.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public contractors and
  • other City employees.
  • Ability to maintain a high standard of ethics and confidentiality.
  • A valid Class 5 Drivers License registered in Alberta or Saskatchewan with an acceptable Drivers Abstract is required. This position may be required to operate a personal or municipal vehicle for business purposes.
