Job Description

Youll be the financial backbone for a specialized design company where your construction industry expertise will be truly valued and essential. This isnt your typical bookkeeping role youll apply advanced knowledge of work-in-progress accounting deposit management and project-based financial tracking that most accountants dont understand. Youll work with a team that appreciates the nuances of construction accounting and needs someone who can handle the sophisticated financial workflows that drive their growing business.

Responsibilities:

Manage complex work-in-progress accounting for multi-week construction projects
Process customer deposits correctly as short-term liabilities rather than immediate revenue
Track project-based purchasing and expenses throughout 6-8 week project lifecycles
Create precise journal entries moving costs from balance sheet to P&L as projects progress
Handle invoicing and payment processing for ongoing construction projects
Maintain accurate financial records using Zoho Books accounting software
Support project cost analysis and financial reporting for management decisions
Ensure UK VAT compliance specific to construction industry requirements

Requirements:

Strong understanding of construction industry accounting principles and practices
Experience with work-in-progress accounting and project-based financial management
Knowledge of UK VAT regulations and construction industry compliance
Understanding of deposit handling in construction contexts (short-term liabilities vs. revenue recognition)
Proficiency with accounting software (Zoho Books preferred QuickBooks experience easily transferable)
Bonus if you have experience with coffee shop or restaurant fit-out projects
It helps if youve worked with design or construction companies in growth phases
