The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Facilities Management the Facilities Supervisor is responsible for maintaining the University grounds assisting in the coordination of building maintenance security and supervising personnel placed under their authority. This is a multi-function role that requires incumbents to perform ground maintenance (labourer) duties as well as supervision of Facilities Management activities. Incumbents should expect to work at least 40% in the supervisory role.
Term: Permanent
Hours of work: Full-Time (40 hours per week); Mon.-Fri. 7:30a.m.-4:00p.m.
Classification/Level: Band 8 $63746-$87878

What youll do
Responsibilities
- Maintains grass vegetation and flowers.
- Orders all materials and supplies necessary to carry out responsibilities with the pre-approval from the Director of Facilities Management.
- Deals with day-to-day matters which arise in connection with
- physical plant equipment maintenance and renovation projects deliveries and pick-ups;
- parking services and security
- cleaning services and room set ups
- signage
- key system
- Spreads topsoil lays sod plants flowers grass shrubs and trees and assists with the construction of landscape and related structures.
- Cuts fertilizes and waters lawns weeds gardens prunes shrubs and trees.
- Prepares shrubs and flower beds for seasons.
- Removes snow and ice from stairs walkways and driveways during winter months.
- Supervises employees when necessary to assist with preparation and maintenance of university grounds and buildings.
- Serves as liaison between the University and various outside groups (UNB Physical Plant Security Utilities Companies).
- Keeps equipment in operating condition.
- Performs other miscellaneous maintenance duties as required.
Shared Responsibilities:
The Facilities Supervisor collaborates with the Office Coordinator / Purchaser to ensure the following activities are accomplished:
- Receiving goods/services
- Ordering of phone sets/services
- Preparing and placing of maintenance purchase orders and work orders
- Operation of work request system
- Operation of parking services
- Ensuring University Facilities are properly equipped for various special events as required
What youll need
Qualifications
- Education from a recognized post-secondary institution with coursework or certification in building services management.
- 4 - 6 years experience in supervisory skills facilities management and building repairs;
- Ability to lead others.
- A sound knowledge of appropriate planting seasons.
- Familiarity in construction techniques tendering processes etc.
- Competence in communication problem solving and organization.
- Knowledge of the Universitys physical plant and equipment.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to effectively share designated responsibilities.
- A sound knowledge of the use of various types of fertilizers and correct level of application.
- Experience using power equipment (mowers electric clippers snow blowers).
Working Conditions:
- Necessity to work outside in inclement weather.
- Off-site travel for pick-up and deliveries may lead to disruption in work schedule.
- Irregular hours may be required to deal with maintenance and building problems.
- Overtime will most often be required during the winter season for snow removal.
- Some heavy lifting may be required.
- Regular requirement to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Conflicting demands may cause stress.
