PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Assistant Superintendent of Academics is a senior administrative leader responsible for overseeing the design implementation and evaluation of the Districts specialized academic programs to increase student achievement in alignment with state standards and district goals. This role provides visionary leadership and strategic oversight across multiple departments including Professional Learning Career & Technical Education (CTE) Fine Arts Special Education Multilingual Programs and Advanced Academics.

The Assistant Superintendent of Academics is charged with developing innovative instructional programs ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations managing budgets and personnel and fostering collaboration across departments to support effective teaching and learning. This position supervises Directors leading each specialized program area and works closely with Human Resource Services to recruit retain and develop highly effective educators and leaders.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

• Masters degree in Education Curriculum & Instruction Educational Leadership or related field from an accredited college or university
• Texas Teacher Certification and Principal Certification
• Minimum of 5 years of campus administration experience

Preferred:

• Doctorate Degree in Education or a related field
• Experience in large diverse urban or suburban school districts
• 35 years of experience in central office leadership in a PK12 public school setting
• Bilingual or ESL certification
• Superintendent Certification

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

• In-depth knowledge of national state and local educational goals policies and curriculum standards
• Expertise in curriculum design instructional delivery assessment development and professional learning systems
• Proven ability to interpret and implement federal state and local laws and regulations impacting education programs
• Strong skills in data analysis program evaluation and use of research-based instructional practices
• Excellent communication collaboration presentation and organizational abilities
• Experience managing complex budgets and personnel
• Ability to foster collaborative partnerships across departments and with community stakeholders

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Leadership and Strategic Oversight:

• Provide visionary leadership and direction to the Departments of Professional Learning CTE Fine Arts Special Education Multilingual Programs and Advanced Academics
• Collaborate with the Chief Learning Officer and district leadership to develop and implement district-wide academic initiatives aligned with state standards and district goals
• Oversee the development evaluation and continuous improvement of instructional programs across all specialized areas
• Lead cross-departmental coordination to ensure aligned curriculum assessment and instructional strategies
• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state mandates including IDEA ESSA Texas Education Code and state accountability systems
• Manage budgets staffing and resource allocation for all reporting departments
• Collaborate with Human Resource Services to recruit retain and develop effective teachers principals and leaders in specialized program areas

Professional Learning:

• Supervise the Professional Learning Department to design and deliver ongoing capacity-building for educators and leaders that improve instructional practices and student outcomes
• Ensure professional development is data-driven research-based and aligned to district academic priorities
• Facilitate collaborative learning communities and coaching models across campuses

Career & Technical Education (CTE):

• Oversee the Districts CTE programs to provide rigorous relevant and engaging career pathways that prepare students for college and careers
• Ensure CTE programs meet federal and state standards including Perkins funding requirements
• Collaborate with business and community partners to expand work-based learning opportunities
• Monitor program effectiveness through data analysis and continuous improvement processes
• Support CTE teachers with curriculum resources assessments and professional development

Fine Arts (Performing and Visual Arts):

• Provide leadership for Music Theatre Arts Speech and Debate Art and Dance programs district-wide
• Oversee curriculum development program assessment staffing and budget management for Fine Arts
• Support extracurricular and UIL activities ensuring compliance with regulations and best practices
• Foster community partnerships to strengthen support for Fine Arts programs

Special Education:

• Provide oversight and support for Special Education programs ensuring compliance with IDEA and state regulations
• Collaborate with campus leaders and special education staff to improve instructional outcomes and inclusion practices
• Support program evaluation data analysis and continuous improvement efforts
• Manage related budgets and coordinate professional learning for special education staff

Multilingual Programs (Bilingual/ESL):

• Lead the Districts bilingual ESL and LOTE programs with a focus on language acquisition and academic achievement for English Learners
• Ensure effective implementation of multilingual curriculum and instructional strategies
• Oversee compliance with state and federal multilingual program requirements
• Support the professional development of bilingual and ESL educators
• Collaborate with campuses to ensure accurate identification placement and monitoring of multilingual learners

Advanced Academics:

• Provide leadership and oversight for advanced academic programs including Gifted & Talented AP Pre-AP Dual Credit and other accelerated learning opportunities
• Supervise the Advanced Academics team in program development student identification assessment and compliance
• Use data and research to guide continuous improvement of advanced academic offerings
• Promote equitable access to advanced learning programs across the district

Collaboration and Communication:

• Foster effective communication and partnerships with principals teachers parents and community stakeholders to support specialized programs
• Represent the District in relevant meetings committees and public forums as needed
• Promote equity diversity and inclusion across all academic programs

Other:

• Develop and monitor departmental budgets aligned with district priorities and grant requirements
• Prepare reports documentation and data analyses for district leadership Board of Trustees and state/federal agencies
• Perform other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility standing prolonged sitting some lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling. This position will require frequent travel within the district and occasional statewide travel.

Mental demands: Ability to manage complex problems and situations interpret diverse data apply research-based practices and prioritize competing demands under pressure. Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to maintain professionalism and emotional control under stress are essential. Extended work hours may be required.
