Position Title: School Nutrition Worker
Work day: 3.5 hours per day (part time)
Location:Hosmer Elementary School
Word Days/Year:6:45 - 10:00 am M-F when school is in session
Reports to: Kitchen Manager/Director of School Nutrition
Position Summary:
The Watertown Public Schoolsis in need of a School Nutrition Worker. The School Nutrition Worker will assist in providing nutritious attractive meals in accordance with established menus recipes and guidelines set forth by the Director of School Nutrition and the government regulations of the National School Lunch Program/National School Breakfast Program.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Essential responsibilities and tasks include but are not limited to the following:
Food Preparation
- Prepares foods in accordance to standardized recipes and menu specifications and performs quality controls including sampling foods to make sure taste & texture are acceptable.
- Operates kitchen equipment such as but not limited to ovens slicers steamers stove tops warmers and dish washers.
- Ensure that all meals are served at the appropriate temperatures and times.
- Present all foods in a visually pleasing manner.
- Conform to all safe food handling storage and sanitation methods in accordance with the current local state and federal guidelines.
- Prepares food according to the recipes and directions provided by the Kitchen Manager and/or the Director.
- Follows standardized recipes; measures and weighs ingredients according to instructions; assembles food and other supplies necessary to prepare recipes.
Customer Service
- May be asked to act as cashier during meal service.
- Serves meals prepared to students and staff with enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
- Maintains a clean and sanitary work environment by practicing a clean as you go technique.
- Maintains accurate account of each sale receives cash & checks maintains daily roster and balances drawer against register tape and cash out slip at the end of the day.
- Is knowledgeable of appropriate use of products daily menus specials promotions and current pricing.
Other Expectations
- Reports to work on time in complete clean uniform.
- May be required to act as kitchen manager in that persons absence
- Attend job-related training classes and workshops
- Work/school assignments are not permanent and may change according to needs of the School Nutrition department
- Will perform other duties as assigned by Kitchen Manager or School Nutrition Director in relation to requirements of the school meal program.
Job Requirements:
Education:
1. High school diploma or equivalent
2. ServSafe certified preferred
Experience:
1. Prior experience in quantity food production preferred
Physical Demands:
Must be able to perform all of job functions requiring the following physical demands: reaching bending stooping and frequently carrying to 50 pounds. General job requires 5% sitting 45% walking and 50% standing and is performed under temperature extremes and under conditions with exposure to risk of injury.
