These positions are located at the DPS Police Capitol Detail and DPS Police State Facilities Security inEast Baton Rouge Parish.

When you submit an application you will be applying for all of these positions. If selected you will be assigned to any of these locations based on the needs of the Department. During the interview process you will indicate your preference of section Commanders will consider this when making hiring recommendations. Typical job duties include:

Capitol Detail Officers assigned to these duties conduct proactive police patrols of the State Capitol Complex and downtown Baton Rouge. Officers enforce state and local laws and ordinances conduct proactive traffic and criminal enforcement investigate crimes and prevent and deter unlawful addition to their police duties officers frequently act as ambassadors of the state as they interact with visitors to our great state.

State Facilities Security - Officers assigned to these duties provide police protection to thousands of state employees and visitors throughout Louisiana. These officers enforce state and local laws and ordinances conduct frequent security patrols investigate crimes and prevent and deter unlawful activity.


Minimum Qualifications

No experience or training is required.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.

Possession of a current drivers license.

Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:
Conducts proactive police patrols issues citations investigates crashes and responds to all calls for service.

Patrols assigned area to deter and prevent criminal activity.

Investigates crashes keeps bystanders out of danger renders first aid questions drivers and witnesses and prepares narrative reports of conditions and causes of crashes. Supervises removal of injured persons and vehicles to restore highway safety and normal traffic flow.

Acts as a Field Training Officer to assist in the training of DPS Police Officers.

Provides community-policing services.

Provides police protection to elected officials dignitaries critical infrastructure state buildings and other high profile facilities.

Completes documents related to enforcement activities such as reports of investigations inspections written warnings citations affidavits warrants/ search warrants property receipts/releases and paperwork that may be required by other law enforcement agencies.


Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type:This position may be filled as a classified position as a job appointment probational and/or promotional opportunity.
Career Progression:This position may be filled as a DPS Police Cadet DPS Police Officer or DPS Police Senior Officer depending on experience.

*Applicants must be able to qualify with firearms complete advanced driver and weapons training pass a thorough background investigation and meet all annual training requirements.

*Applicants must live within 75 miles of their assigned location. Applicants who do not meet the residency requirements will be rejected.

The locationis: Capitol Detail and State Facilities Security - 1835 N. River Road Baton Rouge LA 70802. POST-certified applicants are preferred.

Compensation:

Starting pay is determined by your level of experience according to the following schedule:

DPS Cadet ( No minimum experience is required) - $20.20/hour;$42016.00/yearly

DPS Officer - $22.32/hour; $46425.60/yearly

DPS Senior Officer - $23.88/hour; $49670.40/yearly

Experienced officers who are POST Certified may be hired at up to $31.17 an hour ($64834 per year). Only well-qualified applicants with additional certifications and more than 10 years of service will qualify for this starting pay rate.
