This is a Transportation Supervisor II position located in the Division Two Carteret County Maintenance Unit. The primary purpose of this position is to manage plan organize staff direct and monitor all maintenance activities in Carteret County to provide a safe and efficient highway system. This position manages these activities within budgetary constraints and organizes and directs the safety program. The employee must effectively manage all force account and contract maintenance operations within the county. This position ensures E&SC best management practices are implemented throughout the duration of the project identifies deficiencies in the road system and problem solves corrective actions reviews and responds to complaints providing solutions to the public inspects utility conflicts and plans utility relocation driveway installation and replacement requirements and Secondary Road additions. This position also manages all operations associated with after-hour emergencies and weather-related events including managing both pre-treatment and snow & ice removal operations. Other duties include planning RMIP and reactive maintenance work in efforts to maximize unit efficiency. This position needs to prioritize tasks set goals & accomplish objectives in a timely manner. The employee must determine equipment materials and personnel needed to efficiently accomplish all assigned tasks maximizing the units efficiency by assigning work within the abilities of each crew respectively. This position meets regularly with supervisors to gather input on the work being performed & assures work is being completed to satisfaction. This supervisor assists in professional growth of employees by preparing & reviewing career development plans and NCVIP with all subordinate personnel overseeing the training program and providing additional training when needed or requested. This position monitors the responsibilities of personnel addressing any problems with suggestions for resolution. The person in this position must be highly efficient in the utilization of AMS applications in efforts to conform to budgetary constraints. The supervisor ensures accurate and timely entry of all FR1101s generates estimates for Secondary Road Program all maintenance operations and force account construction project and supervises force account construction monitoring expenditures and work accomplished to ensure compliance with budget and work plans.This position is subject to emergency callback and scheduled night work during emergency situations adverse weather or other extreme circumstances. This position is also subject to out-of-town travel during adverse weather or other extreme circumstances.

Work includes reading and interpreting plans determining personnel equipment and material needs to complete assigned maintenance tasks. Employee is responsible for making appropriate adjustments to plans to meet field conditions planning monitoring and ensuring safety standards are adhered to daily documentation of personnel material and equipment usage responding to public inquiries attending training and continuing education classes to keep up to date on all state and federal regulations and maintain certifications in all required areas (i.e.: traffic control and environmental stewardship). The employee must safely be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. Safety toe shoes required.

High school or General Educational Development diploma and seven years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience. Experience must be related to the functional area of the work that the position will supervise.
