About the Library

Housed in the Riddell Library and Learning Centre theUniversity Libraryis an integral part of the MRU experience. The services facilities programming and expertise available in the Library support innovative teaching learning and scholarship across campus.

The Library includes the Archives and Special Collections and specialized and technology-enriched teaching and learning spaces including information literacy classrooms a Maker Studio audio production rooms and a range of visualization simulation and immersive spaces. The Library team consists of approximately 60 employees. About the Role

Reporting to the Manager Maker and Media Commons the Public Services Assistant supports and assists Library users with a range of research-related tasks in support of their academic work and their information needs. Responsibilities include providing one-to-one instruction assisting users in accessing information in physical and online environments and assisting users with a range of equipment and technology.

The successful candidate will have a collaborative and user focused approach to Public Services work and will actively support and contribute to MRU Librarys ongoing efforts towards Indigenous reconciliation and diversity equity justice inclusion and accessibility.

This 8-month term position is full-time (35 hours per week on-campus working Tuesday to Saturday).

Responsibilities

  • Performs reference interviews to respond to identify assess and clarify information needs of Library users.
  • Provides one-to-one instruction and assistance to Library users in virtual and physical environments to help them effectively access and use print and electronic resources to meet their information needs.
  • Maintains expertise in a range of information resources databases subject areas and in searching and evaluation skills.
  • Provides referrals to other University services staff or faculty as appropriate.
  • Assists users with current and emerging Library learning technologies and equipment (including computers media equipment printers audio production equipment and software; and the technologies available in the Library spaces).
  • Works as part of a team to provide efficient timely information and referrals to Library users.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree OR a Library Information Technology Diploma.
  • 3-6 months experience working in Library user services or or a public-facing customer service and support role.
  • Understanding of and familiarity with the post-secondary environment and the needs of academic Library users.
  • Strong written and oral communication.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Previous work experience in academic libraries is a strong asset.

Salary: $51745 - $65500per annum.
