Reporting to the Maintenance Manager the Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating maintenance team members and activities to ensure equipment runs safely and optimally. Through collaborating with other departments they will play a critical role in enhancing operational efficiency and safety.
Responsibilities
Responsible for preventative maintenance systems inspection routines job scheduling training and identification of plant improvement plans for improved efficiencies and yield.
Lead Continuous Improvement initiatives and Safety objectives. Strive for zero incidents and ensure a people centered safety culture exists within the department.
Lead emergency machine breakdown investigations with a sense of urgency.
Technically support Skilled Trades employees to determine solutions in uncertain situations.
Manage motivate develop and provide direct leadership to maintenance staff.
Supervise repairs carried out by maintenance staff and/or Contractors.
Evaluate incoming work notifications and when warranted generate and prioritize a work order to cover the work.
Work various shifts including weekend shifts.
Assist with the implementation of capital projects.
Ensure that all maintenance work is captured on work orders and inputted in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Ensure that all scheduled work orders are completed within the allocated time.
Supervise completed work orders for correctness completeness and are closed out in the CMMS.
Perform periodic inspections of recently maintained equipment to ensure the quality of the maintenance performed and the operating condition of the equipment.
Liaise with Engineering and Operations on matters relating to equipment maintenance and availability.
Provide guidance to the Planner/Scheduler when approving prioritizing and estimating work and technical assistance when developing job plans.
Participate in various production meetings KPI review meetings and pre- and post-maintenance schedule review meetings
Assist with the identification of root causes (RCFA) following equipment failures and development of new maintenance tasks to eliminate them in the future.
Demonstrate an active involvement/commitment to a progressive health and safety program and food safety program.
Qualifications
Skilled trade Certification (Industrial Millwright preferred) or equivalent education/experience.
3 to 5 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment preferably in a food processing. Working in a unionized environment would be an asset.
Enrollment or graduate from the PEMAC Maintenance Management Professional Certification Program (MMP) an asset.
Proven analytical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Highly motivated and a self starter.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Computer literacy needed to work with software packages such as Microsoft office CMMS and Payroll.
HACCP & GMP experienced.
Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Excellent leadership communication collaboration with training and development skills
Experience in developing and incorporating Predictive Preventative and Proactive maintenance requirements for equipment asset systems within an industrial maintenance environment.
Technically proficient with MRO Inventory stores industrial electricity PLC Motor Controls Pneumatics Mechanical apertures and automated processing equipment
Familiar with Condition Based Monitoring equipment and field devices.
Knowledge of OHSA Safety practices standards and regulations
Familiar with the concept of world class maintenance best practices developing SoPs and other work instructions.
Aware of Six Sigma RCM CI and autonomous maintenance principles
Knowledge of ammonia-based plant refrigeration systems and their operation
Proficient with coaching and directing maintenance resources effectively using key performance indicators and benchmarking.
Proven record for identifying reliability issues and participation in implementing improvement strategies.
Ability to flex hours to meet business needs and ensure adequate supervision of maintenance personnel.
Working conditions
Plant Environment: The plant work environment will expose the employee to loud noise food grade dust & odors moving & vibrating machinery heavy equipment powered industrial trucks heights traffic anhydrous ammonia oil and electricity. The employee may be exposed to adverse weather conditions including extreme cold heat rain snow dust smoke and odors. Flexibility of work hours. Ability to work on feet for extended periods of time if needed.
Physical requirements/Allergens
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to walk sit talk listen and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to use hands to handle operate and feel objects tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to operate a motor vehicle to travel to off-site meetings. The employee must have visual acuity sufficient to operate a motor vehicle and digital camera as well as other office and position equipment. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Employee must be able to hear and speak clearly in order to communicate with clients coworkers employees and vendors.
