Job Description

Job Summary:

The Referral Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that incoming referrals are processed and prepared for scheduling with the appropriate clinic. The Coordinator will process referrals in a timely manner and prioritize those that are deemed as urgent. Duties and responsibility include but are not limited to: contacting referring providers/facilities to gather information as needed verification of patient insurance and benefit information verification of bad debt and referral to Patient Access if needed update patient information within the EMR as necessary. The Referrals Coordinator will work closely with the providers and staff of the clinics to which the referrals are directed. The Referrals Coordinator will assure the completion of records and data gathering as directed per provider. Referral Coordinator will review incoming referrals with specific insurance types to assure authorization to see specialist has been put in place by referring provider/facility. The Referral Coordinator complies with HIPAA regulations as well as the organizations policies and procedures regarding patient privacy and confidentially maintains professional tones at all times when communicating with patients providers and other representatives and performs other clerical duties as required.

Education and Training:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

Experience:

  • At least one (1) year experience in a medical office or hospital performing pre-authorization functions or medical insurance billing. CPT/ICD coding experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with medical terminology and surgical procedures nomenclature. Strong verbal and written communication skills excellent phone etiquette strong interpersonal skills. Strong computer skills including Word Excel other office software and hardware.
