Job Description
The Koch Associate Program (KAP) is a career accelerator for early to mid-career professionals with a drive to tackle our countrys most pressing challenges in more effective principled ways. Associates spend one day each week engaging in experiential learning with Stand Together Fellowships and work at one of our many partner organizations the rest of the week. Our curriculum is designed to supercharge your development and equip you for long-term success as you seek to have an impact on the problems that prevent people from realizing their potential.
The Center for State Fiscal Reform at the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) seeks a Research Manager. The Center for State Fiscal Reform provides policymakers with dependable economic and fiscal policy research to solve public policy challenges and produce better economic outcomes for all Americans. To achieve its goal of enhancing economic competitiveness and sound fiscal policy in the states the Center for State Fiscal Reform provides original research expert testimony and best practices in the areas of tax budget and pension reform policy.

Founded in 1973 on the principles of limited government free markets and federalism ALEC is the nations largest voluntary nonpartisan individual membership organization of state legislators and provides a forum for members of the public and private sectors to address challenges facing Americans across the country.
As the Research Manager you will interact with state legislators and legislative staff speak with government affairs leaders and business owners and learn from issue area experts.
Typical responsibilities for the role include:
- Policy research analysis and summation
- Drafting and editing timely op-eds blog posts and research publications
- Presenting research findings at state issue briefings and legislator academies
- Representing the Center at coalition meetings
- Assisting with logistics for Center events and completing administrative tasks
To succeed in the role you must be detail-oriented and a self-starter work well under pressure and possess a customer service mentality. Excellent verbal and written communication skills interpersonal skills and a can-do attitude are also keys to success. Finally you must demonstrate a strong commitment to the ALEC mission of promoting the Jeffersonian principles of limited government free markets and federalism.
Role Requirements:
- Educational Requirements: Bachelors Degree
- Experience: 3-5 years
- Attendance: this is an in-person role; no majority hybrid or remote options are currently available
- Some travel is required (10-15%)
