Job Description

Job Title: School Principal

Reports To: Tletinqox Government CEO School Board and Chief and Council

Department: Education

Compensation: Competitive with the local School District #27 Teacher Salary Grid (dependant on qualifications and experience)

Hours of Work: 36 hours/week

Tletinqox School is looking for a motivated and passionate Principal to join our dynamic and energetic team for the 2025/2026 school year; and beyond. As Principal of Tletinqox School you will have the opportunity to support K-12 Programming Adult Education and the Tletinqox esgul Equine program. Tletinqox esgul prides itself on providing a close team setting and supports the Principal in ongoing professional development through a commitment to receiving on-site visits from FNESc Regional Principals and Instructional Coaches throughout the year.

The Tletinqox esgul Principal is also responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of Teacherage housing and school fleet in conjunction with the Fleet Manager and the school O&M Manager. THE Principal will oversee all instruction support Professional growth Planning and present to the school board and chief and council on a monthly basis.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Promote a positive work atmosphere and communicate in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect.
  • Ensure that the school environment fosters and maintains respectful and responsible behaviours.
  • Ensure the safety of students while participating in school programs.
  • Ensure the School meets all the requirements of the B.C. Ministry of Education curriculum and standards
  • Provide direction and oversight for curriculum and delivery of curriculum to the established standards.
  • Ensure all necessary assessment and learning materials are planned for and available for teachers and students
  • Develop the yearly school calendar and all schedules.
  • Monitor the change process for individual students and the school using objective data collection instruments and techniques (i.e. DIBELS)
  • Hire and on-board new staff for all positions within the school.
  • Manage the operation and maintenance of the school buildings and all teacherage units.
  • Provide all required reports and analysis of information to Management Advisory Groups and Chief and Council
  • Ensure that staff members have the opportunity to collaborate with other professionals and attend in-service in order to improve their teaching performance.
  • Responsible for required reporting to ISC for nominal roll and other reporting as required.
  • Review all long range planning to ensure compliance with BC Education standards.
  • Ensure daily plans meet the needs of students and instructional best practices.
  • Develop feedback instruments and conduct teacher supervision and evaluation with respect to targeted teaching strategies and professional growth planning.
  • Support Behaviour interventions and follow-up throughout the school.
  • Encourage a proactive and positive-based approach to discipline for all staff and students.
  • Take appropriate actions to ensure open transparent positive communications are developed and maintained within the school and the community.
  • Supervise and manage classes to ensure all students are learning in a safe and productive manner.
  • Ensure the school environment is clean and orderly.
  • Become involved in community activities that promote the school education programs and support relationship building with community members.
  • Regularly and proactively engage individual parents Chief and Council Community Members and the School Advisory Board to provide information and receive feedback on student engagement development and well-being.
  • Communications and Community Relations
  • Ensure that parents have a high level of satisfaction with the services provided
  • Ensures that the school is represented in positive way in public forums around the area.
  • Engage in contribute to and accomplish the vision and goals of the Community
  • Participate in professional growth processes with administration and FNSA/FNESC coaches; including participation in video coaching and professional development.
  • Track student progress to drive instructional practices and for presentation to parents and administration.
  • Develop and deliver differentiated and engaging lessons that meet BC Ministry of Education learning standards.
  • Utilize direct instruction programs and intervention programs as prescribed by school administration.
  • Develop and utilize yearly overviews for each subject; including pacing guides.
  • Identify and select varying instructional resources and methods to meet students needs.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development.
  • Update records accurately and completely as required by school and ministry policy.
  • Participate in extra curricular and community functions.
  • Remain updated on developments in curriculum and instructional changes and developments.
  • Manage student transportation employees and flee vehicle use in coordination with Tletinqox Government Fleet Manager.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Master of Education or Experience as Administration for a First Nations School
  • Certification under the BC Teacher Regulation Branch (in good standing)
  • Ability to provide a recent (within two months) clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector check.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  • Knowledgable of Indigenous approaches to education and learning; and an appreciation for the importance the roll local history and context plays.
  • Experience working with First Nations schools and. Education programs.
  • Proven ability to lead a team
  • Understanding of instructional pedagogy and proven ability to deliver effective instruction at multiple levels.
  • Organization planning decision making and problem solving skills are a necessity.
  • Excellent classroom management skills based on positive reinforcement.
  • Understanding of and ability to incorporate technology into the classroom.
  • Dependable self-motivated high energy and able to work under little or no supervision.
  • Capable of following instructions.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of ethical behaviour and confidentiality when dealing with students staff and or parent/guardians
Competencies:
  • Must be adaptable flexible and be willing to work closely in a collaborative teaching environment.
  • Willingness to be video coached
