Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel The Military College of South Carolina is seeking an internal Director of Prevention Education/Campus Advocate who provides the campus community with tools and resources necessary to successfully navigate the college environment while promoting a positive college experience for campus community members. This role provides comprehensive education about contemporary wellness issues impacting the college population including alcohol and other substance use mental health and associated stigma sexual health healthy relationships gender violence and violence prevention. The individual will also assist in coordinating these programs with related agencies within the college and community assist in Title IX education for the Corps of Cadets day students graduate college and night undergraduate students. This role will also serve as a trainer and advisor to The Citadels 70-Member Human Affairs Team of cadets. Serves as an advisory member of the Title IX Council when needed.

  • Specializes in providing crisis response and advocacy to members of the campus community who have been impacted by sexual assault intimate partner violence and stalking and hazing while providing consultation to the campus community about gender violence issues and other concerns that are specific to the student and employee culture. Assists in developing planning coordinating implementing teaching and/or supervising all aspects of the sexual violence/harassment/interpersonal violence (IPV) awareness and prevention educational programs for students.
  • Serves as a point of contact for The Citadel and community at large to coordinate care for cadets other students and employees affected by sexual harassment/sexual violence/IPV..
  • Assists in developing planning coordinating implementing teaching and/or supervising all aspects of the sexual violence/harassment/interpersonal violence (IPV) awareness and prevention educational programs for students. Will oversee a range of programs promoting wellness for all cadets students and faculty/staff.
  • Acts as an integral team member of the Leader Training Program for Cadets. Presents prevention information to and speaks regularly with Faculty/Staff as well as completes ongoing assessment of programs and recommends adjustments as indicated to fit the needs of the Citadel community.
  • Works closely with the Title IX Coordinator and key campus constituents in coordinating campus-wide prevention and awareness programs. Coordinates with the Title IX office and other on-campus and community agencies to ensure best care possible for cadets/students.
  • Researches trends in best practices to recommend best model for the program to include advocacy advisement and education. On call 24/7/365.
  • Provide support to Summer programs advising and Citadel Success Institute (CSI)
  • Assists in coaching training educating counseling and mentoring cadets on wellness and co-education behaviors
    • Trains/advises the 70-cadet member Human Affairs Teams (HATs). Plans/implements 4-day intensive training program for HAT members; providing them with information and tools that will enable them to promote a healthy social/emotional climate.
    • Assist in training the regiment in HA topics as designated by the Commandant and serve as extensions of student services by referring cadets with academic military physical or interpersonal problems to the appropriate resources.
    • Serves as peer educators and trains/advises the One-in-Four all-male group and the Women Empowered female cadet club.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in a related field AND experience in counseling/advocacy for student population. Must have experience in dealing with sexual assault alcohol and substance abuse. Must possess the ability and desire to mentor advise coach teach and counsel college students and student leaders in a military college environment. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree preferred.
