Job Description

Job Title: Finance DirectorFLSA Status: Exempt

Pay Rate:$80000$85000 annually/
$38.46$40.87 hourly
Position Overview
Hours: 4045 Hours Weekly minimum or as necessary to achieve program objectives tasks activities responsibilities and to effectively document outcome measures and variances.

Summary Description: Reporting to the Executive Director and acting as a member of the leadership team the Nonprofit Finance and Grants Director is responsible for managing the financial actions of the agency including: oversight of the finance department; analyzing risks and opportunities; tracking cash flow and financial investments; identifying the companys financial strengths and weaknesses and proposing corrective actions; grant billing and grant fiscal compliance; interface directly with the PEO (Professional Employer Organization); supervision of finance department employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions: Oversees the financial and accounting aspects of BATP and works closely with the Executive Director to achieve compliance and sound fiscal responsibility including:
  • Work with Executive Director BATP Board Treasurer and Finance Committee Members on a monthly or as needed basis to ensure sound financial records prepare reports and make proposals for sustainability
  • Budgeting: Lead the preparation of the agencys annual budget in conjunction with the Executive Director and leadership team. Works to ensure BATP remains within the budget throughout the year. Prepare the financial portion of funding proposals.
  • Visioning & Planning: Create a multiyear funding forecast in collaboration with the Executive Director and other applicable leadership of BATP; regular analysis of risk factors and opportunities for agency to improve its financial position.
  • Internal Controls: Act as the Agencys Controller. Develop and ensure compliance to internal control policies.
  • Track and make recommendations regarding agency investments
  • Staff Engagement: Build BATP staffs participation in and contribution to policy and procedures regarding fiscal compliance.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly operating balance sheet and P&L following GAAP. Maintain accurate accounting of all income and expense sources and restrictions. Interface with Executive Director to fulfill information requests and maintain reporting accuracy. Comply with the Texas Administrative Code Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and 2CFR200 Single Audit guidelines to government funding. Prepare or oversee all foundation request budgets government funding budgets and monthly billings in conjunction with appropriate/designated staff.
  • Oversee the organizations accounting system: prepare/review journal entries reconciliations payroll monthend and yearend closes.
  • Ensure all mandated/regulatory filings are completed in a timely manner e.g. IRS Form 990 IRS quarterly reports TWC etc.
  • Throughout the year prepare for and lead in grant audits and the agencys annual independent audit including a single audit of federal funds. Maintain related financial documentation.
  • Complete grant billing for a minimum of 12 state and federal government contracts in excess of $3 million dollars. Complete budgetary adjustment as applicable and ensure appropriate match requirements are met.
  • Attend grant workshops to sustain current expertise regarding financial procedures and compliance issues.
  • Manage the agencys insurance procurement and risk management; serve as the administrator of the agencys 401K Life Insurance AFLAC Workers Comp and Health insurance plans. (Unless otherwise managed by PEO.)
  • Oversee preparation of payroll and facilitate all related functions.
  • Maintain uptodate and applicable Fiscal Management Policies and Cost Allocation Plan to be compliance with federal regulations; train employees as necessary to achieve compliance.
  • Annually conduct a market analysis of the salary ranges and employee benefits in the field and participate in related surveys.
  • Oversee the structure of revenue receipts function for offsite agency events and attend all to ensure a smooth financial process.
  • Facilitate the agencys accounting software conversion when necessary. Amend policies and procedures as applicable.
  • Genuine interest and concern for the agencys clients and capacity to learn about the issues and interface with clients as necessary.
  • Participation in organizational processes and activities as appropriate and needed.
  • Capacity to act in an executive leadership manner.
  • Personal & Professional Development: Dedicate ongoing attention to personal and professional development independently and within the organization.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings as required
  • Communicate emergency needs to the Executive Director in a timely manner
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Experience & Education
  • Bachelors degree in accounting Finance or Business (required)
  • 510 years experience in accounting and financial management leadership roles with 35 years in nonprofit accounting and financial management including grant management experience (preferred)
  • Proficiency using Quick Books for Nonprofits (preferred) or comparable financial database

Preferred Knowledge Abilities Skills
  • Masters degree in accounting Finance or Business (strongly preferred)
  • Proficient in computer systems and software used by the agency
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping with accuracy in calculations and data input
  • Ability to prioritize demands and manage multiple tasks
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with a communication style that is transparent and direct
  • Ability to understand and describe agency policies procedures mission and services
  • Model logical problem solving flexibility and a positive approach to tasks and problem resolutions
  • Work in a team focused environment and have strong leadership skills
  • Available to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Must submit to and successfully complete a background check. Must have a clean driving record and be insurable
