Job Description

Job Title: Temporary Outings Coordinator (Parttime)
Department: Georgia Chapter
Reports To: Chapter Director
Location: Atlanta GA (Hybrid)
Duration: 6 months or less
Hours Per Week: 20 hours (Parttime)

Sierra Club has close to 800 staff across the country and a network of 64 local chapters that are led and fueled by thousands of volunteers. Scope: The Outings Coordinator builds grassroots power by increasing the number of people connected to nature through Chapter Outings. Primary responsibilitiesinclude planning and hosting outings with an emphasis on outings with community partners in Metro Atlanta. The Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and planning outings with partners and/or Sierra Club staff recruiting participants for outings and ensuring programming is in alignment with Sierra Club Outings policies and procedures.

Job activities include but are not limited to:

    • Leading outings trips and ensuring participants are prepared to participate including: scouting trails reviewing medical forms and liability waivers receiving photo release forms etc.
    • Planning weekly outings trips and ensuring compliance with Sierra Club policies and procedures.
    • Serving as primary coordinator for planning outings with community groups and organizations.
    • Planning outings curriculum and conservation message in coordination with Sierra Club staff.
    • Recruiting and socializing outings participants via Campfire Email Meetup social media etc.
    • Maintaining outings email list with Sierra Club staff and Chapter Outings Chair.
    • Working with Chapter Outings Chair to host Outing Leader Trainings (OLT).

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the following skills experience and capacities:

    • Interest and enthusiasm for connecting self and community to nature
    • Understanding and/or experience working with populations traditionally underrepresented in the outdoors.
    • Outdoor skills and leadership you are comfortable taking new groups of people into the outdoors.
    • Ability and experience building partnerships with outside organizations
    • Ability to work with diverse groups of volunteers
    • Ability to use social media Canva email and other digital platforms
    • Project management you are able to balance competing projects and track their progress through to deadline.
    • Committed to evolution. You are committed to continuously deepening and evolving your own understanding of systems of oppression through study openness and humility. And you easily recognize your own relationship to privilege and power examining and shifting your behaviors as appropriate.
    • Uplifting and additive. You see mistakes as opportunities for growth; problems as catalysts for solutions and inspire others along the journey. You carry a constructive approach cando attitude a sense of humor and authentic kindness wherever you go.

The strongest candidates will also demonstrate some or all of the following experiences skills and competencies:

    • Comfort and experience leading traditionally underrepresented groups into the outdoors.
    • Knowledge of the outdoors (green spaces parks trails etc). in the Metro Atlanta area.
    • Core collaboration skills include: Proactive and able to step in where they see opportunity (vs. being dependent on concrete guidelines);Flexible and able to strategically assess situations shifting as needed with ease; Responsive and able to nimbly move across programs as part of collective success;
    • Demonstrated ability to build rapport quickly
    • Passion for the environment conservation and some understanding of environmental issues facing Georgia.
    • Experiential learning and/or curriculum development for the purpose of facilitating discussions on relevant topics in conservation to support Chapter advocacy goals

    • We are willing to train the ideal candidate on the following: FirstAid Outdoor Leadership Training (OLT)Outdoor program risk management
    • This position requires working on weekends. Must have a vehicle good driving record and proof of insurance.
$30115 $30115 a year
Compensation and Benefits
The salary for this position is based on an annual salary of $30115 nonnegotiable.

This is a category 99 nonexempt nonrepresented temporary position.
