Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) is Wisconsins largest and most diverse technical college offering 170 highquality programs that connect students to a career in as little as one to two years. Under the direction of the Executive Dean of Learning the Director Library Services leads and manages library services and information services Districtwide to support the academic and research needs of students faculty and staff and to provide technical assistance on instructional support issues. The role involves strategic planning resource management including digital literacy and open educational resources (OER) and implementation of modern library technologies to enhance learning and research across the District.

Work requires the use of independent judgment prioritizing while working from broad institutional and divisional policies and general objectives. Communication is continuous between the division industry partners and specialized agencies.

Qualifications

Compliance with all state federal and accreditation standards/requirement as well as all MATC policies and procedures.


Required Education & Experience: Masters degree in Library Science Administration or related field from a school accredited by the American Library Association and five (5) years of related work experience with three (3) years of supervisory experience or one (1) year of staff supervision combined with an Emerging Leaders equivalency.


Preferred Education & Experience: Masters degree in Library Science Administration or related field from a school accredited by the American Library Association and more than five (5) years of related work experience with more than three (3) years of supervisory experience.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
  • Advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of library science and information services.
  • Knowledge of academic library services in a twoyear technical or community college setting.
  • Knowledge of books and instructional resources related to technical education collection development.
  • Experience in creation and delivery of library and information resources instruction to students and faculty.
  • Ability to apply standard library methods in the performance of acquisition classification and cataloging reference and general or special circulation and other library services.
  • Ability to overcome obstacles by engaging outside resources or utilizing executive direction.
  • Ability to complete projects in a higher education setting.
  • Ability to organize prioritize and schedule work assignments.
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written means across all levels of employees and management including public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Ability to establish collaborate and maintain effective work relationships with peers students teachers staff representatives of outside agencies educational institutions and the general public.
  • Ability to convey an image of professionalism and dedication in work related activities.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse student and employee populations.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and software specific to position including spreadsheets and Google Suite.
  • Demonstrates integrity and deals effectively fairly and in a timely fashion with all stakeholders.
  • Ability to establish workflows manage multiple projects across divisions and meet necessary deadlines.

Supplemental Information

Start Date
This position supports the Academic Services Department and is available to start as soon as possible.

Hours
This position is a 1.0 FTE or 40 hours per work week. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8am 4:30pm.

Salary
Salary is listed to the midpoint of the salary range and is based on the 2025 rates. Salary is determined by years of experience credit and internal salary equity.
