Prevention Education and Outreach Specialist (Bilingual English/Spanish). Monday through Friday 8:30 to 4:30; 10 Month Educator Schedule; with occasional evenings and weekends for a total of 35 hours per week. Flexible location: East Hampton and/or Riverhead NY office location. Local travel to schools & community organizations.

Develops facilitates and implements The Retreats educational initiatives (both in person and remotely) including school and communitybased violence and abuse prevention programs and The Retreat Teen Leadership Council. Utilizing bilingual skills as liason between youth and other community members and the Retreat Counseling Staff and Community Professionals. The Prevention Education and Outreach Specialist at The Retreat is responsible for helping prevent abuse promote respect and healthy relationships throughout our community and build awareness about The Retreat and our many free and confidential support services for people experiencing abuse in relationships.

PURPOSE

The Prevention Education and Outreach Specialist at The Retreat is responsible for helping prevent abuse promote respect and healthy relationships throughout our community and build awareness about The Retreat and our many free and confidential support services for people experiencing abuse in relationships.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach abuse schoolbased (prek through college) and communitybased (for professionals parents and community members) prevention workshops including healthy relationship skill building and preventing bullying domestic violence/dating violence and sexual abuse in both English and Spanish
  • Build student and community involvement through outreach including traditional and social media campaigns and communication and event coordination and development.
  • Translate materials from English to Spanish and facilitate inperson and online workshops and presentations in English and Spanish

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Development and Facilitation

  • Tailor The Retreats education curricula and materials to meet the needs of the targeted audience; identify or create new curricula as needed
  • Develop and deliver The Retreats crisis response programming and information for youth mental and social health needs; Provide Mental Health First Aid crisis response to students participating in programming
  • Participate in the expansion of The Retreats education programming by assisting in the design of and leading workshops for teens to help prevent abuse and promote respect throughout the community

Evaluation

  • Develop and implement evaluation strategies to determine the effectiveness of programs and workshops
  • Prepare monthly (and as needed) reports highlighting program outcomes for grant reporting analysis and evaluation of programming

Outreach

  • Host outreach tables at community events and health fairs to build awareness about The Retreat
  • Track and coordinate agencywide participation in outreach efforts
  • Participate in task forces to build a coordinated community response to promote healthy relationships
  • Mentor and support youth and adults with referrals to counseling and other support services as needed; foster and develop students interested in volunteering and supporting others
  • Build relationships and a referral network among support staff at schools and community agencies

Other

  • Maintain records of all activities completed
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual outcome reports as requested
  • Participate in training opportunities and staff meetings

POSITION RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to the Prevention Program Associate Director and Director of Prevention Programming

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors degree in Social Work or Education or related field is preferred but not required if equivalent experience can be demonstrated.

2 years of experience in any of the following areas: community outreach education social work mental health or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the duties of the position.

Previous experience presenting information to groups in person or online. Must understand sexual domestic violence dating violence or stalking through education previous work or volunteer experience. The desire to continue building knowledge in the field.

Required capabilities include:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Spanish.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain positive relationships with school administrators teachers and students
  • Ability to provide education through group workshops and oneonone meetings
  • Experience working with all ages ranging from kindergarten to adult with emphasis on the ability to work with teens through the Teen Leadership Council and school presentations
  • Ability to maintain a traumainformed and caring approach to connecting with students and community members
  • Ability to utilize social media for outreach and communication purpose.
  • Must be fluent in Microsoft Office and Google Suite

Other requirements:

  • Must have a valid New York State Drivers License (required) and reliable transportation (mileage reimbursed).
  • Fingerprint clearance required
