Position Summary: The Director of Development leads the development team to ensure the organization has the financial resources necessary to cover operating costs expand initiatives and execute successful campaigns. This role is responsible for managing major gifts annual giving events and donor stewardship. The Director will also oversee development operations and collaborate closely with the Leadership Team and Board to achieve fundraising goals and support organizational growth.
Key Responsibilities
Development Leadership:
On an annual basis create a fund development plan based upon analysis of previous fundraising outcomes review of the current fundraising landscape and knowledge of best practices in the field.
Develop and implement targeted fundraising strategies to meet organizational goals while ensuring an increase in both restricted and unrestricted revenue.
Manage major and planned gifts annual giving grants and fundraising events.
Partner with Events Coordinator to achieve fundraising goals associated with SafeHouse Denvers signature events.
Participate in Leadership Team strategic meetings. The Leadership Team is currently composed of the CEO CFO Director of Residential Services Director of Survivor Services and Director of Development.
Donor Relations and Stewardship:
Cultivate and solicit highnetworth prospects and current major donors in collaboration with the CEO.
Develop personalized engagement and stewardship strategies to strengthen donor relationships and increase giving.
Oversee donor communications including thankyou notes and impact reports.
Partner with the Communications Specialist to ensure donorspecific messaging aligns with and follows the proper cadence.
Board and External Relations:
In collaboration with the CEO enhance fundraising efforts and engagement with the Board of Directors and continue to educate the board about their development roles and responsibilities.
Attend community events with key stakeholders.
TeamManagement:
Oversee development team members including the Individual Giving Manager and the Development Manager.
Provide leadership guidance and coaching to development team members.
Budget and Data Management:
Draft and manage the development department budget; ensure alignment with organizational goals.
Partner with the CFO to ensure communication about fundraising outcomes and evolving organizational needs.
Oversee donor data management and reporting ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of experience and education. CFRE (Certified Fundraising Executive) designation is preferred.
Experience:
710 years of experience in nonprofit development or fundraising including at least 35 years in a director role.
Proven track record in securing major gifts and managing largescale fundraising initiatives. Previous capital campaign experience is preferred.
Experience in grant writing grant management and managing a development team.
Skills:
Strong understanding of fundraising principles and best practices.
Proficiency in donor management systems. (SafeHouse Denver currently uses DonorPerfectCRM)
Excellent strategic thinking leadership and communication skills.

Abilities:
Ability to develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Capacity to build and maintain relationships with major donors board members and other stakeholders.
What We Offer:
Starting annual salary range: $80000$95000. Fulltime exempt position. Performance evaluations with an opportunity for meritbased increases after one full year of employment.
