Position Summary:
Coordinates the release of patient medical information as well as the implementation of/compliance with the prospective payment reimbursement system.
Reports to: Manager
FLSA: Nonexempt
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Prepares and disseminates copies of patient records as needed for patient transfer continuity of care and administrative review; including CCDA/ CCDE discharge lists.
Coordinates third party medical record audit requests by logging audit request in various database tracking applications and accurately prepares records for release to auditing agency.
Assists with the preparation and maintenance of department reports.
Analyzes and evaluates clinical and operational systems through special study methods.
Coordinates special reporting and clinical data transmission in a timely manner to meet the needs of various customers including routine monthly interdepartmental data requests birth defects registry head injury/spinal cord injury registry maternal death study and Michigan Hospital Association discharge data.
Identifies coding and compliance issues through monthly reporting. Prepares written report to the
Compliance Officer as appropriate.
Assists in performing periodic claim form reviews to check code transfer accuracy from the abstracting system through the billing system.
Conducts trend analyses to identify patterns and variations in coding documentation and regulatory compliance.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Education
High school diploma or equivalent
Associates degree (Preferred)
Graduated from AHIMA approved coding program (Preferred)

Requires critical thinking skills decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Has knowledge of and abides by policies.
Minimum Work Experience
6 months medical record experience
1 year medical record experience (Preferred)

Certifications:
Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLSHCP)

5 years in nursing
5 years managerial experience (Preferred)
